Di Grassi joins forces with Addax GP3
September 1st, 2010
Virgin Formula 1 driver Lucas di Grassi has become a part-owner in the Addax team’s GP3 operation.
The Brazilian drove the squad’s GP2 arm in 2008, taking third in the championship despite missing the first six rounds of the series. He has now taken a minority shareholding in the Addax GP3 team.
Team boss Alejandro Agag said the deal was a natural continuation of the good relationship di Grassi formed with Addax – then running under the Campos title – in GP2.
“We are delighted to welcome Lucas aboard, although since his days as driver for the team in GP2 he has always been in close contact with us, which has made it all the easier for him to form part of this project, which has its sights set for a bright future,” said Agag.
“He is a young driver already consolidated among the world’s elite in this sport and this is why we are convinced that, with his experience and his serious and tremendously professional way of working, he will make an important contribution to the success we hope to achieve in the short term. More than a shareholder he is a valuable addition to the team.”
Di Grassi added: “I would like to thank Alejandro Agag for this opportunity to form part of this team that I already know so well, which makes it easier to back this project.
“I was very happy here and I achieved important objectives with them in 2008. Now I’m back to offer my services especially in the sports area. I’m looking forward to working on a project which is a genuine platform for young drivers and I will try to help them with technical and tactical preparation, give them information concerning the circuits, race strategy etc.
“The idea is to help these young talents make progress, as they are the future of motor racing. I believe GP3 is the future of Junior formula as it precedes GP2 and it should get stronger each year.”
Addax currently runs former A1GP driver Felipe Guimaraes, and Ferrari junior drivers Mirko Bortolotti and Pablo Sanchez Lopez in GP3. Guimaraes has been the most successful of the trio so far, taking third place in race one at Istanbul and holding 15th in the championship.
