Howard to return with Fisher’s team
October 9th, 2009
Sarah Fisher Racing will field a second car driven by Jay Howard next season, as well as expanding Fisher’s effort to nine races.
Howard, the 2006 Indy Lights champion, started last season with Roth Racing, but split with the team prior to the Indy 500 and has only contested a handful of Lights races since. He will race for SFR at Indianapolis, Texas, Mid-Ohio and Chicagoland in 2010.
“What they’re all about is exactly what I’m looking for,” said Howard. “I told Sarah I’d go streaking as soon as the deal was done. I’m stoked to be a part of it.”
Fisher set up her own team last season to contest partial programmes based on oval events – racing three times in 2008 and increasing to a six-round schedule this year. Her best result to date as an owner/driver was 12th place at Kentucky in August.
She has retained Dollar General as a primary sponsor and her expanded schedule will include the St Petersburg street race and Barber Motorsports Park road course, as well as Indianapolis, Kansas, Texas, Iowa, Kentucky, Chicago and Miami.
“Jay and I are going to make a great team,” said Fisher. “Having a partner out there changes everything. We can share data for our cars, and it gives us both an edge for solving any issues during a race. Two minds are always better than one.”
