Gascoyne urges caution over equalisation

Lotus technical director Mike Gascoyne has urged teams to take a cautious approach to deciding whether or not engines need to be equalised once again at the end of the year. The FIA has left the door open for engine performance to be readjusted ahead of 2010, if there is evidence that some power units have an advantage and if the teams agree that something needs to be done.
Gilliland to drive for Joe Gibbs

Joe Gibbs Racing has confirmed that David Gilliland will drive a fourth car for the team in three of the upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Chase races. Gilliland, who has driven for TRG for most of the year and has recently competed for Robby Gordon Motorsports and Wood Brothers, will now race for a fourth different team after signing a deal for three events with Gibbs. The 35-year-old will attempt to qualify the #02 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota at Charlotte, Texas and Homestead.

Doohan to contest Race of Champions

Motorcycle racing legend Mick Doohan has become the latest big name to sign up for this year’s Race of Champions in Beijing. The Australian, who won five consecutive world championships in 500cc motorbike racing in the 1990s, will be making his debut in the main RoC, having contested the RoC Legends event in Portugal earlier this year. As well as taking part in the individual competition, Doohan will also represent Australia in the Nations Cup, where he will be teamed with V8 Supercar champion and three time Bathurst 1000km winner Jamie Whincup

Sebastien Loeb will drive for GP2 team DPR in the official test which takes place at Jerez on October 6-8. The five-time World Rally champion has been linked with a switch to Formula 1 throughout this season. He tested for Red Bull at Barcelona last winter and has been linked to a race seat at Toro Rosso for this season’s finale in Abu Dhabi

Oliver Gavin says he is revelling in the level of competition in the GT2 class of the American Le Mans Series following last weekend’s Petit Le Mans event at Road Atlanta. Mark Martin refuses to get carried away by his Chase lead and, despite Jimmie Johnson’s win, he reckons the title battle to be still wide open among the 12 contenders in the play-off. The Hendrick driver won the first race of the Chase at Loudon and followed that up with a second place finish on Sunday at Dover, which allowed him to retain the lead of the championship despite race winner Johnson closing on him in the points race
