Massa takes third in karting return

Felipe Massa finished third in the opening leg of his charity karting event in Brazil today, as he made his first competitive appearance since sustaining serious head injuries in his Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying crash.
Aspar to hold Aprilia Moto2 talks

Aspar team boss Jorge Martinez ‘Aspar’ is to hold talks with Aprilia following the Italian company’s decision to abandon its Moto2 plans. The Piaggio Group had supplied the majority of the field in Moto2′s predecessor 250cc via its Aprilia and Gilera brands – but this week announced that it was calling a halt to its Moto2 project. Its statement claimed it would be “unnecessary and damaging” to participate in the series as the whole field would run Honda engines.
Canadian GP secures new deal

The Canadian Grand Prix’s return to the Formula 1 calendar in 2010 is now official, after the government stepped in to help secure a five-year deal for the race. Following months of uncertainty about the fate of the event, which was dropped for this season after a deal could not be reached with Bernie Ecclestone, the Montreal race’s return was confirmed at a press conference in the Canadian city on Friday afternoon.
Stefan GP still seeking 2010 grid slot

Stefan Grand Prix, the Serbian team that is seeking a move into Formula 1, says it is still looking at opportunities to make it onto the grid next year – despite dismissing talk that it is about to buy Toyota’s F1 entry. The fate of Toyota’s slot on the grid remains uncertain, with the FIA having sought clarification from the Japanese manufacturer about its legal position in relation to the entry it committed itself to until 2012. AUTOSPORT understands that the matter is due to be discussed at the next Formula 1 Commission meeting in Monaco in early December, with the final 2010 F1 entry list due to be published after next month’s FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting.
Works teams to scale back for 2010

The World Touring Car Championship will have a reduced grid of factory cars in 2011 with BMW and SEAT set to announce downsized programmes next week. BMW is expected to cut its works effort from five cars to two. Roberto Ravaglia’s ROAL Motorsport team expected to quit the series following Alex Zanardi’s announcement that he is to leave the WTCC.
Montreal set to confirm GP deal

The Canadian Grand Prix at Montreal is set to be confirmed on the 2010 Formula 1 calendar on Friday. Montreal mayor Gerald Tremblay and provincial cabinet ministers will hold a news conference later today and are expected to announce the official return of the race, absent from the calendar this season

Renault announces Jerez test line-up

The Renault team will test Bertrand Baguette, Lucas di Grassi and Ho-Pin Tung in the upcoming testing session at the Jerez circuit in Spain. Baguette, the current Formula Renault 3.5 champion, will be joined by Renault’s reserve di Grassi an Chinese prospect Tung, who had already driven F1 machinery during a test with Williams. Belgian Baguette will be on track on Tuesday, December 1 as his prize for winning the World Series title this year
Force India retains Sutil and Liuzzi

The Force India team has confirmed it will retain both Adrian Sutil and Tonio Liuzzi as its racing drivers for the 2010 season. It will be the fourth consecutive season that German Sutil drives for the Silverstone-based squad, while Liuzzi secures a full-time drive for the first time since 2007. “We are very pleased to retain the services of both Adrian and Tonio for another season,” said team boss Vijay Mallya.

Volkswagen considering F1 engine supply

Volkswagen is seriously evaluating a move into Formula 1 as an engine supplier from 2012, when new power unit regulations due to be introduced could make the sport attractive enough for the German car maker to get involved. Although F1 has been rocked by the withdrawal of three manufacturers in the last 12 months – with Honda, BMW and Toyota all quitting the sport – the Volkswagen Group believes that the sport is actually becoming more attractive with the way rules are heading.
Skoda pleased to pick up Scotland win

The exclusion of Kris Meeke’s Peugeot 207 S2000 from the Rally of Scotland has left Skoda UK delighted to celebrate – belatedly – its maiden Intercontinental Rally Challenge win. Skoda UK driver Guy Wilks has been promoted from second to first following the stewards’ decision today, with the exclusion also meaning a first win at this level for the double British Rally xhampion. Circuit bosses join Business Forum

Formula 1 circuit chiefs are the latest additions to the 2009 Motor Sport Business Forum, which takes place in Monaco on December 9 and 10. Richard Cregan, the CEO of the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi; Walter Kafitz, the CEO of the Nurburgring, and Razlan Razali, CEO of Malaysia’s Sepang, will all join a debate about the business of running circuits – and what motor sport promoters and sponsors can do to make the sport more appealing. The Motor Sport Business Forum is in its fifth year, and has established itself as a must-attend winter event for leading figures from the worldwide motor sport industry
Meeke loses Scotland win

Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Kris Meeke has lost his Rally of Scotland victory after the front subframe of his Kronos Racing Peugeot 207 S2000 was found to be underweight. Meeke’s victory had been declared provisional following post-event scrutineering last weekend, but a final decision was delayed until Thursday as initial re-weighing of the component in question proved inconclusive

Piquet joins Massa’s kart event

Nelson Piquet has been invited by Felipe Massa to take part in the Ferrari driver’s annual charity kart race in Brazil this weekend. Piquet’s participation in the event will mark the first time he has raced against, or even met, some of his former F1 rivals since the controversy about his involvement in the Singapore Grand Prix race fix saga erupted earlier this year. Piquet has set his sights on victory in the International Challenge of the Stars kart race in Florianapolis, having finished eighth overall – and right behind Michael Schumacher – in the SKUSA Supernats kart event in Las Vegas last weekend
