Team Target/Chip Ganassi put up a strong fight in 2010 Rolex. Their second place finish is not what they hoped for but it does put them in good shape in terms of season points – ahead of the Gainsco, Brumos and Suntrust teams. Justin drove several strong stints throughout the 24 hour race, only to come up less than a minute behind the winning car, the #9 Action Express Racing Porsche Riley.
Action Express wins Daytona on debut

The new Action Express team has taken a shock Daytona 24 Hours victory in its debut event, beating the #01 Ganassi car to the flag. The squad is affiliated to last year’s winner Brumos, and was formed using personnel from the latter when it had to scale back to a single car – but was still not expected to be capable of a win at the first attempt

Renault says that its decision to hire Vitaly Petrov as a driver for 2010 was motivated not purely by money, but because his performance and future potential also stood out. Gainsco Car Retires with Oil Pressure Issues

The #99 Gainsco car suffered oil pressure problem in hour 21 of the Rolex 24. Unfortunately for the Bob Stallings team the issue is terminal. Before the latest issue they had lead five laps. They were running 5th when they were forced to retire.
De la Rosa may quit GPDA role

Pedro de la Rosa has suggested he may have to reduce his involvement in the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association now he has secured a racing seat. De la Rosa, who was McLaren’s test driver for seven years, became the chairman of the drivers’ body two years ago and has held his position since. However, the Spaniard is now returning to racing with BMW Sauber and he reckons he will not have enough time to do his GPDA job properly.

Pedro de la Rosa says he had no qualms about leaving the McLaren team to race for BMW Sauber despite how respected he had become at the British squad. De la Rosa is returning to racing this season after seven years as McLaren’s test and reserve driver. The Spaniard last completed a full season with the Jaguar team back in 2002.
Tung leads Renault reserve line-up

Renault has announced Ho-Pin Tung, Jerome D’Ambrosio and Jan Charouz as its reserve drivers for the 2010 season. Tung and D’Ambrosio are both products of the Gravity management organisation run by new Renault partner Gerard Lopez, and had been linked with race seats during the winter. Chinese driver Tung has already driven for the team during last winter’s young driver session at Jerez, and will be Renault’s official third driver.
Kobayashi will keep aggressive style

Sauber confident budget is sufficient

Peter Sauber says his team has no concerns about its 2010 budget despite the lack of sponsor logos on the Sauber C29 when it was unveiled at Valencia this afternoon. The team has reduced its staff level from around 400 to 260 over the winter, and revealed at the launch that its chassis budget was 40 per cent of what BMW had spent last year before its pull-out led to the squad reverting to Sauber ownership. Sauber acknowledged that a greater budget would have been preferable, but said time had been against his team given that its place in the 2010 entry was not confirmed until late last year

The Renault Formula 1 team launched its 2010 car at the Valencia circuit on Sunday afternoon and confirmed Vitaly Petrov as its second driver. The new R30 was unveiled by Russian Petrov and team-mate Robert Kubica, who will form the all-new driver line-up of the French squad this year.
Action Express leads into final hours

The leading #01 Ganassi Riley-BMW crew are facing a tough challenge in their bid to win the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona for a fourth time, as the team chases the Action Express Riley-Porsche after 18 hours. Chip Ganassi Racing has had to work hard for victory, with a three-way battle raging into the final six hours. Following a strong stint from Ganassi’s Justin Wilson, the lead has been swapped several times with the #6 Michael Shank Racing Riley-Ford and the #9 Action Express Riley-Porsche
BMW Sauber to retain name for now

BMW Sauber is not planning to change the team’s name at least before the start of the season, Peter Sauber said on Sunday. Although BMW quit Formula 1 at the end of the 2009 season, the Hinwil-based squad has retained the BMW Sauber moniker so far. Sauber said during the launch of the team’s new car at Valencia that there were no plans to change the name yet because of television money and Concorde Agreement-related issues
