Renault to give junior drivers F1 mileage

Renault plans to give its academy drivers Formula 1 mileage in older-spec cars this season. The team unveiled five reserve drivers along with its R31 car at Valencia today, with Bruno Senna and Romain Grosjean joining the previously-announced Fairuz Fauzy and retained back-ups Ho-Pin Tung and Jan Charouz. Team boss Eric Boullier says he always planned to have a deep roster of drivers this year, and that the Renault academy is intended to prepare these drivers for racing in Formula 1 should the opportunity arise
Pedrosa eager to get back on track

Dani Pedrosa is excited to be back in action this week after a long winter break where he has spent much time recovering from his broken shoulder. The works Honda driver injured his shoulder in an accident in practice at the Japanese Grand Prix last year and spent the latter part of the season struggling as he tried to recover. Pedrosa will get back to work this week at Sepang, where MotoGP will be testing from tomorrow
Renault frustrated by Lotus name row

Renault team owner Gerard Lopez has expressed his frustration at the ongoing row over the use of the Lotus name in Formula 1 – and has urged his rival Tony Fernandes to come clean about the real reasons behind the dispute. Ahead of a court case that will start in March to decide the fate of the Lotus brand in F1, and whether Fernandes can use the Team Lotus moniker, Lopez says he is frustrated that the matter has overshadowed the build-up to the new season
Audi tests new R18 at Sebring

Audi has tested two of its brand new R18 LMP1 cars at Sebring, although it still plans to use an updated R15 in the 12 Hours at the circuit in March. All nine members of Audi’s Le Mans line-up drove both types of car during the tests, which concluded on Saturday. Team boss Dr Wolfgang Ullrich said Sebring had been selected mainly for weather reasons.

IndyCar heroes from Down Under made hay in their annual raid on the Daytona 24 Hours, with New Zealander Scott Dixon and Australian Ryan Briscoe moving up to new positions within the top 20 of the Castrol Rankings. Dixon was in the car that was narrowly pipped to victory by the sister Chip Ganassi Racing Riley-BMW, but his second place lifts him three places from 18th to 15th in the Castrol Rankings, moving him above Formula 1 stars Robert Kubica and Nico Rosberg and IndyCar rival Helio Castroneves

Kubica cautious on Renault’s chances

Robert Kubica says it is too early to judge how competitive Renault will be in 2011, although the Pole feels the team is better prepared than last year. The team was one of the positive surprises of 2010, with Kubica fighting near the top in several races and achieving three podium finished on his way to eighth place in the championship. And although team bosses said they goal is to start winning races again, Kubica is refusing to get carried away.

Bruno Senna is aiming to use his time as Renault’s third driver to convince the team he is worthy of a race seat in 2012. Sauber: Push-rod design beneficial

Sauber’s technical director James Key believes the team’s push-rod suspension design will be beneficial for the Swiss squad. The Hinwil-based team has followed Ferrari’s route, moving away from Red Bull Racing-led route of a pull-rod suspension despite the team’s success during the 2010 season. Sauber will be using Ferrari’s engine and gearbox, as well as KERS and hydraulics this year
