Jackson: Knockhill will suit Chevys
August 31st, 2011
Mat Jackson believes that this weekend’s British Touring Car Championship round at Knockhill will play to the strengths of the rival Chevrolet squad. Jackson took the championship lead for the first time this season following his race three win at Snetterton last time out and has tasted success on four occasions in 2011. However, the Motorbase Performance driver carrying 45kg of success ballast and the turbocharged cars have had their engines pegged back on a number of occasions against the normally-aspirated cars, such as the Chevys and the WSR BMWs this season

August 31st, 2011
Johnny Herbert and Mark Blundell will return to the Volkswagen Scirocco-R Cup at Brands Hatch this weekend and will be joined by Tiff Needell, Mark Higgins and Nicolas and Anthony Hamilton in guest cars. Herbert, a three-time grand prix winner, made his debut in the DTM support series at the British circuit last year and then took a pole position at the season-ending round at Hockenheim, while Blundell – another ex-F1 racer – made it onto the podium at the Brands Hatch event in 2010.

August 31st, 2011
Matt Neal will continue his British Touring Car Championship title challenge at Knockhill this weekend, despite breaking his right hand recently. Button ready for new McLaren deal
August 30th, 2011
Jenson Button says he is now just waiting for McLaren to take up his option for next year, with him fully expecting to be at the team next year. The 31-year-old Briton has yet to confirm his drive for next year, but the team is understood to be working on a new, more expansive longterm contract that ties Button to McLaren beyond 2012 – rather than simply picking up its one-year option that it holds on his services.

Boullier convinced Senna right choice
August 30th, 2011
Renault has got back itself back in the ‘positive’ mood that it needs to make progress up the grid, reckons team boss Eric Boullier, on the back of Bruno Senna’s morale boosting performance in Belgium last weekend. Although Senna’s race hopes were effectively dashed by an error at the first corner, the way the Brazilian dealt with the pressure of the weekend and put himself seventh on the grid has left Boullier convinced he did the right thing in shaking up his driver line-up
Two separate DRS zones for Monza
August 29th, 2011
The FIA is to use two independent DRS zones for the first time at the forthcoming Italian Grand Prix. At most venues this year there has been only one zone in which the overtaking device can be deployed during races, but in Montreal and Valencia two areas were set up. At those events the two DRS zones were on consecutive straights, but with a single detection point allowing drivers to trigger their wing flap for both

August 29th, 2011
The Volvo C30 has been given a slight weight increase for the next round of the World Touring Car Championship at Valencia this weekend. The increase, which only affects Robert Dahlgren’s Polestar Racing-run model, comes after the compensation weight was adjusted in accordance with the pace of all competing cars over the past three championship rounds.
McLaren didn’t change set-up for tyres
August 29th, 2011
Martin Whitmarsh says his McLaren team decided there was no need for a camber change and that it could safely complete a stint on the blistered Pirelli tyres that Lewis Hamilton had to start the Belgian Grand Prix on. Several leading drivers – including both Red Bull men and Hamilton – picked up blisters on the soft Pirellis in Q3 on Saturday, and there were concerns over whether it would be safe to start the race on them
Swanwick to make BTCC history
August 29th, 2011
Chris Swanwick will become the youngest driver to start a British Touring Car Championship race when he joins the series at Brands Hatch in October. Swanwick, 17, was signed as Rob Austin Racing’s development driver last month and has tested one of the team’s NGTC-spec Audi A4s at Pembrey and Rockingham. The team has now confirmed that he will race at the final two events of the year, which should enable him to break the record currently held by Tom Chilton.
Whitmarsh: DRS a success at Spa
August 29th, 2011
McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh has rejected suggestions that the DRS made overtaking at Spa too easy, and believes it created just the right level of entertainment in the Belgian Grand Prix. The Kemmel Straight after Eau Rouge was chosen as the DRS zone for the race, and saw plenty of passing throughout the field – with drivers ahead finding it hard to successfully defend against their pursuers. Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali suggested that because drivers were already close behind rivals through Eau Rouge, the DRS effect was multiplied and made overtaking a foregone conclusion
Q and A: Horner on Spa win and tyres
August 29th, 2011
Spa saw Red Bull Racing deliver its first one-two finish since May’s Turkish Grand Prix, and Sebastian Vettel end a brief victory drought that had seen him off the top step of the podium since Valencia in June. But it was not a straightforward event, with the champion team at the centre of controversy over blistering Pirelli tyres. AUTOSPORT was there to hear team chief Christian Horner’s explanation
