Le Mans avoids F1 clash in 2012
August 29th, 2011
The Le Mans 24 Hours will avoid a clash with Formula 1 in 2012, and will move its test day to a fortnight before the main event. Organiser the Automobile Club de L’Ouest has announced that next year’s running of the endurance classic will take place on 16-17 June, with the test day on 3 June, rather than the April date used this season. The traditional test had been dropped for 2009 and 2010 on cost grounds before its return this year.

Ian Harrison’s multi championship-winning squad will bring its pair of Super 2000-spec Vauxhall Vectras, each powered by an NGTC-spec TOCA engine, to the championship, which is due to run between October and next April. “We have seen the UAE touring car series grow dramatically over the past couple of years and it’s clearly a series with a bright future,” said Harrison

McLaren: 2011 not a lost cause yet
August 29th, 2011
McLaren is not ready to write off the 2011 campaign as a lost cause, despite Sebastian Vettel’s Belgian Grand Prix victory having appeared to all but kill off the world title battle. Vettel’s latest triumph has left him 92 points ahead of his team-mate Mark Webber in the championship standings, with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso 102 points adrift and Jenson Button 110 off. But despite that situation making it highly unlikely that Vettel can be beaten, McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh says fans will expect Red Bull Racing’s rivals to keep up the charge
Ferrari to focus on tyre compatibility
August 29th, 2011
Ferrari says its priority in the future must be to ensure its car can use its tyres better – after again seeing its form slump on harder compound rubber during the Belgian Grand Prix. Fernando Alonso had been a close match for Red Bull Racing duo Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber on the soft tyre at Spa, but he fell away dramatically in the closing stages after his switch to the medium tyre. Ferrari had experienced similar issues earlier in the campaign but appeared to have overcome them
Power wins again at Sonoma
August 28th, 2011
Will Power survived a late restart to lead a Penske clean sweep of the top three places in Sunday’s IndyCar race at Sears Point. Power led virtually the entire race, only relinquishing the top spot briefly during the pitstops
Ducati must improve, says team boss
August 28th, 2011
Ducati team manager Vittoriano Guareschi is adamant that his team must improve after enduring a disastrous Indianapolis Grand Prix. The team’s best finish in the USA was a 10th place for Valentino Rossi, who dropped to the back of the field after his bike jumped out of gear and into neutral, leaving him without drive momentarily during the race’s early stages
Alonso: Safety car helped Vettel
August 28th, 2011
Fernando Alonso believes that the four laps spent behind the safety car during the Belgian Grand Prix turned the race in favour of Sebastian Vettel. The Red Bull driver had already made two pitstops by the time the safety car was deployed following the accident between Lewis Hamilton and Kamui Kobayashi, whereas the then leader Alonso had made only one stop and was forced to give away some of his advantage by running at slow speeds. Ferrari driver Alonso still thinks, however, that his team’s decision not to call him in for a stop at the time was the right one – even if he did fall to fourth place by the finish
Bautista: Result will inspire team
August 28th, 2011
Alvaro Bautista believes that Suzuki can take a step forward over the remaining races of the year after putting in his best performance of 2011 to finish sixth at the Indianapolis Grand Prix. The Spaniard had been on course for similar results in the past two races at Laguna Seca and Brno, but crashed out of both while running competitively

Pirelli: Red Bull to blame for blisters
August 28th, 2011
Pirelli has accused Red Bull Racing of putting it in an ‘unfair’ position over the Belgian Grand Prix tyre situation, because of the way the team’s set-up choices were the cause of the controversial blistering to the option tyres it begun the race with.
Spies: Start did not ruin race
August 28th, 2011
Ben Spies does not believe he would have finished much higher than third at the Indianapolis Grand Prix, even if he had made a clean start. The Yamaha rider started second, but made a poor getaway and was then shuffled back to ninth after being pushed wide by Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso at Turn 4 on the opening lap
Pedrosa: Second place unexpected
August 28th, 2011
Dani Pedrosa said that his runner-up spot at the Indianapolis Grand Prix was an unexpected bonus after he struggled in qualifying.
Stoner: I could have gone quicker
August 28th, 2011
Casey Stoner said that he could have gone even quicker on his way to victory at the Indianapolis Grand Prix had conditions allowed. The Australian passed his Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa for the lead and pulled away to a comfortable win that helped increase his championship lead over Jorge Lorenzo to 44 points with only six races remaining
Stoner heads Honda 1-2 at Indy
August 28th, 2011
Casey Stoner made it three MotoGP wins in a row as he headed a Honda one-two at the Indianapolis Grand Prix and further increased his stranglehold on the world championship lead. The Australian was beaten off the line by his team-mate Dani Pedrosa and dropped behind Lorenzo after running wide at Turn 2 on the opening lap.

Power heads Sears Point warm-up
August 28th, 2011

Schumacher: Tyre choice critical
August 28th, 2011
Michael Schumacher said his decision to begin the race on hard tyres was a contributing factor to his fight back through the field from the back of the grid to an eventual fifth position in the Belgian Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver came out top of a close duel with his team-mate Nico Rosberg late in the race at Spa, taking advantage of soft new tyres as opposed to his rival’s harder rubber
Sunday’s press conference – Belgium
August 28th, 2011
TV UNILATERAL Q. Sebastian, congratulations on your first Belgian Grand Prix victory. A comfortable victory, but how comfortable was it given the concern before and in the early stages of the race as to how long you could make the soft tyre last?
