Stephane Peterhansel took over the lead of the Dakar Rally following the second stage on Monday, while Nasser Al-Attiyah went fastest to climb from 38th to sixth overall.
Tincknell recovering from injury

Harry Tincknell is fighting to regain fitness for next year’s British Formula 3 championship after breaking his hand in a testing crash. The Brit was driving for Carlin at Spa at the beginning of November when he lost control at the left-hander before Pouhon, slammed head-on into the barrier and hit his hand on the steering wheel. The accident broke the third finger of Tincknell’s right-hand at the base knuckle and he has since had an operation to pin the finger back in position.
Ganassi praises IndyCar chief

Champion IndyCar team owner Chip Ganassi has praised the job done by series CEO Randy Bernard during a testing 2011 season. Bernard, had no previous motorsport experience when he was appointed to the role in early 2010, and was faced with challenges including Dan Wheldon’s death at Las Vegas, the introduction of a new car, engine and rules package, poor TV figures and near-constant criticism of former race director Brian Barnhart during the past 12 months. But Ganassi, who has won the past four series titles with Dario Franchitti (2009-2011) and Scott Dixon (2008), said that Bernard has learned to navigate motorsport politics quickly
Rosberg: Missing test no problem

Nico Rosberg does not believe that missing the first official Formula 1 test of 2012 will affect Mercedes’ competitiveness this season. The team announced recently that it would not take part in the Jerez test on February 7-10 in order to spend extra time developing its new W03 machine.
Kimber-Smith wants LMP1 seat

Tom Kimber-Smith is chasing an LMP1 drive at June’s Le Mans 24 Hours, after being left out of Greaves Motorsport’s LMP2 line-up. The 27-year-old Briton was the star driver for the team in 2011, helping it to a Le Mans class victory and the Le Mans Series LMP2 title.
Rosenqvist stays with Mucke

Felix Rosenqvist will remain with Mucke Motorsport for a second crack at the F3 Euro Series title this year, and will be partnered by category rookie Pascal Wehrlein. Rosenqvist, 20, finished fifth in his rookie Euro Series campaign in 2011, becoming the first Swede to win a race in the championship. He also won the Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort
