Toyota staying realistic for 2012
January 24th, 2012
Toyota plans to use the 2012 season to show the pace of its new hybrid LMP1 car rather than aim for results at Le Mans and in the World Endurance Championship. The Japanese manufacturer revealed its petrol-electric TS030 HYBRID at Paul Ricard on Tuesday, but Toyota Racing team president Yoshiaki Kinoshita moved to temper expectations ahead of its first season competing against Audi for overall honours

De la Rosa calm over new HRT car
January 24th, 2012
Pedro de la Rosa insists HRT’s production of its new car is going to plan and is still hopeful he will be able to drive it during the second pre-season test at Barcelona. The Spanish squad is working flat out to have its new single-seater ready in time for testing and, despite suggestions that there are delays with it, de la Rosa says he is staying calm. HRT is set to test its 2011 car in the opening session at Jerez, but de la Rosa is still hopeful the team will be able to run with the 2012 machine in the second test at Barcelona on February 21
Spindel Takes Pro Series Finale at Suzuka
by Chris Hall on January 24th, 2012
In a breathtaking 53 laps around the virtual Suzuka International circuit, Emil Spindel held-off the advances of newly-crowned champion Atze Kerkhof to take his first victory in the iRacing.com Pro Series Road Racing (iPSRR). As the lights went green on the twelfth and final race of the season, CST Ajira’s Spindel saw his pole-position advantage immediately evaporate, as Martin Krönke in the My3id Williams-Toyota FW31grabbed maximum traction off the line to lead the field into Turn One. Also making a good start was Kerkhof, who forced his Team Redline entry beneath Spindel as the pair entered the first corner. However, contact between the duo whilst heading to Turn Two sent the series champion sliding across the track and down to fifth position. With a clear track ahead, Krönke set about [...]

January 24th, 2012
Jerome D’Ambrosio will be the Lotus team’s third driver during the 2012 season, the outfit announced on Tuesday. D’Ambrosio will attend all races this year, working with race drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
Stoner: Honda switch vindicated ability
January 24th, 2012
Casey Stoner says his dominance of the 2011 MotoGP championship with Honda – and Valentino Rossi’s struggles after replacing him at Ducati – have given him a credibility he never attained while riding for the Italian marque. Stoner won his first MotoGP crown with the Desmosedici in 2007 and was a race-winner in the subsequent three seasons, never finishing lower than fourth
Busch says he needs new attitude
January 24th, 2012
Kyle Busch has admitted that he has to change his attitude this year to avoid any repeats of the controversies that surrounded him towards the end of the 2011 NASCAR season. The Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota driver was suspended from racing in the Cup race at Texas in November after he deliberately crashed into Ron Hornaday under caution in the Truck series race earlier in the weekend.
Latvala puts Monte crash behind him
January 24th, 2012
Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala says he has put his Monte Carlo Rally shunt behind already, with his focus now firmly fixed on next month’s Rally Sweden. Latvala crashed out of the lead of last week’s Monte Carlo Rally and was the big loser from the WRC opener, picking up no points because of the event organiser’s decision not to run the re-entry regulations known as Rally 2. He has vowed to move on, however, and focus entirely on the next event in Sweden
McLeod Wins Battle, Loses War
by Patrick Atherton on January 24th, 2012
MADISON DOWN THE SERIES CHAMP AGAIN Just to add a little spice to the already-hot iRacing V8 Supercar Series finale, series points leader Madison Down was unable to front for the maximum points Monday Night Showdown at Road Atlanta due to pressing travel arrangements. While some would argue that it detracted from the event, leaving the series destiny at the mercy of an SOF points variable, it also meant that Mitchell McLeod and Rens Broekman, both trailing Down, would have a genuine shot at series victory. At the very least, the points gap would be minimal. Broekman drew first blood with pole position by a tenth of a second, which is a country mile in this series. McLeod put the Tatts.com Falcon on the front row. Mick Claridge made a [...]
