Solberg aims for home advantage boost

Ford driver Petter Solberg will be hoping to make his home advantage count on next week’s Rally Sweden – which passes the border into Norway and goes right past his front door. Solberg, who returned to the official Ford team this season, is delighted with the decision from the Rally Sweden organisers to spend one of the three days competing in neighbouring Norway. The 37-year-old has a family home and hotel alongside Friday morning’s Mitandersfors stage – a test which starts in Sweden and finishes in Norway
Sato seals Rahal IndyCar drive

Takuma Sato will lead Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s return to full-time racing in the IndyCar Series this year, the team has announced. The ex-Formula 1 racer has switched from KV Racing, where he has spent the past two seasons since joining the series at the start of 2010. “I’m very proud, motivated and excited to be chosen by Bobby [Rahal, team boss] to join his big project,” said Sato, who has two pole positions and a best finish of fourth in his IndyCar career

Starworks enters WEC with HPD

Starworks Motorsport will enter the World Endurance Championship this year with an LMP2 class HPD ARX-03b. British driver Ryan Dalziel, who anchored the squad to second place at last weekend’s Daytona 24 Hours, will share the car with Venezuelan driver Enzo Potolicchio and one other driver, who has yet to be announced. Brian Colangelo will run the WEC programme, answering to team director Simon Morley, while Steve Challis will lead the engineering side of the team
Hirvonen talks up Sweden chances

Citroen driver Mikko Hirvonen says the French firm’s DS3 WRC is strong enough to end his former team Ford’s stronghold on next week’s Rally Sweden. Hirvonen has won the last two Karlstad-based events in a Ford and you have to go back to Petter Solberg’s Subaru success in 2005 for the last time it wasn’t one of the British-built World Rally Cars on the top step of the podium. Green: Most will use ‘platypus’ nose

Force India technical director Andrew Green expects most teams to join Force India, Ferrari and Caterham in opting for the ‘platypus’ nose design. The new Force India VJM05, which was unveiled at Silverstone this morning, featured the distinctive shelf where the nose joins the higher front section of the monocoque. Despite the McLaren MP4-27, launched on Wednesday, not featuring the drop nose thanks to a lower chassis front, Green thinks most will follow the design concept that his team has chosen.
