Rally Sweden in race for TV solution

The organisers of Rally Sweden are working around the clock to try and find funding for international television coverage of the second round of the World Rally Championship. Svenska Rally AB, the organising company, has established a deadline of midday Tuesday to conclude deals to show footage from the Karlstad-based event.
Hayden set for shoulder surgery

Boullier: 2012 a year of adjustment

Lotus team boss Eric Boullier says 2012 will still be a year of adjustment for the outfit, with 2013 the first season when it will be fully operational. The team has undergone several changes, including a new ownership, over the last year and faces 2012 with relatively modest goals after a difficult 2011. Racing under the Renault name, the team finished in fifth place in the standings last year, and Boullier wants to go one better in the upcoming season
Hirvonen encouraged by warm-up win

Mikko Hirvonen says his victory on yesterday’s Rally Finnskog has confirmed he is taking the Citroen DS3 WRC in the right direction ahead of this week’s Rally Sweden. The Finn starts the second round of the World Rally Championship chasing a third straight Rally Sweden win and his success on the one-day round of the Norwegian series has boosted his confidence. He took a half-minute win over Henning Solberg’s Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI.

Kimi Raikkonen insists motivation has never been an issue for him, and reckons he drove some of his best races during his last year in Formula 1. Raikkonen left the sport at the end of a difficult 2009 season and spent two years in the World Rally Championship. The Finn is now returning to Formula 1 with Lotus, and says people questioning his motivation are simply wrong.

Ducati buoyed by test results

Ducati technical chief Filippo Preziosi says the results of the first winter test proved that the team is on the right track with the major changes it has made for 2012. After failing to win a race in 2011 – despite recruiting seven-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi to lead its line-up – Ducati has had a total rethink of its bike concept with the GP12. Rossi was between 0.7 and 1.2 seconds off the pace during the test at Sepang this week, in line with Ducati’s hopes for the new bike’s first proper run, and Preziosi said the results had vindicated the team’s changes.
Alonso glad Ferrari went radical

Fernando Alonso says he completely backs Ferrari’s decision to produce a radical 2012 Formula 1 design, and argued that the F2012 can still be considered beautiful. Injured Wilson to miss Sweden

Matthew Wilson has been ruled out of Rally Sweden after breaking his left ankle in a fall while training on Saturday. The Briton fell awkwardly during a run in England’s Lake District and was taken to hospital. “It looks as though I’ve broken and dislocated my left ankle so, unfortunately, that means no Rally Sweden for me,” said Wilson, who had started the season with a tough run to 11th in Monte Carlo
