February 18th, 2012
Sebastien Buemi had his first run in Toyota’s TS030 Hybrid Le Mans car as the team completed a 30-hour endurance test at Paul Ricard across Thursday and Friday. The Red Bull Formula 1 reserve driver joined team-mates Hiroaki Ishiura, Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima at the test. “It was nice to discover more about the endurance racing environment,” said Buemi
MSR may miss start of season
February 18th, 2012
Michael Shank Racing may have to delay its IndyCar Series debut or only contest a limited 2012 schedule as it looks for further sponsorship. The team has an engine deal with Lotus and hopes to run Paul Tracy, but has yet to begin testing, and admitted that a potential sponsorship option fell through last year. “We’ve got the car in the shop and the people we need to go run the car, but at this point we are still working to have the full budget in place to go racing,” said Shank.
Johnson prepared with fresh approach
February 18th, 2012
Five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson says he and his Hendrick team have totally re-evaluated every aspect of their approach since their title streak was ended last year. Johnson claimed every Cup championship from 2006 to ’10, but finished third in the standings behind Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards last year. He admits that an element of complacency had crept in
Ricciardo: Red Bull no extra pressure
February 18th, 2012
Daniel Ricciardo says the fates of past Red Bull proteges who have not lived up to expectations do not put any added pressure on him – as he is already extremely hard on himself. Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne are moving into the Toro Rosso race seats this season after predecessors Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari became the latest Red Bull young drivers dropped for not making the grade, as Tonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed had been before them. But asked by AUTOSPORT if Red Bull and Toro Rosso’s reputation for ruthlessness awed him, Ricciardo insisted it did not create any pressure that he would not have been putting on himself already
Moss: Vettel is a modern Fangio
February 18th, 2012
Formula 1 legend Stirling Moss believes current world champion Sebastian Vettel is the modern equivalent of Juan Manuel Fangio. Moss, who was one of five-time champion Fangio’s biggest rivals in the 1950s and his team-mate at Mercedes in 1955, said Vettel’s current superiority over the F1 field was comparable to Fangio’s.

The Australian, who drove a factory Subaru for four years, has not competed at the highest level of the sport since finishing fifth in a one-off outing in a Citroen C4 WRC on Rally Ireland in 2009
iRacer Profile: Farid Laggoune
by David Phillips on February 18th, 2012
What’s a nice guy from Algeria doing at Lanier and South Boston? Well if you’re speaking of Farid Laggoune the answer is: winning sim races. Lots of them. Laggoune (who sports the red, white and green colors of Algeria on his helmet despite having since moved to France) finds himself in familiar territory these days, namely leading the iRacing.com Legends Cup midway through the third week of 2012 Season 1 on the strength of 15 wins in 28 starts. That’s right where he finished 2011 Season 4C, by the way, atop the Legends Cup standings (ahead of some guy named Scott Speed) after a Season 4B that saw him visit Victory Lane no less than 30 times in 66 outings. Laggoune isn’t ALL about Legends. Of late he’s dipped his [...]
