This has led to various deals being struck and partnerships created between teams to get drivers into the field, including this year an alliance between Stewart-Haas Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing that saw the former’s rookie driver Danica Patrick transferred to a Baldwin entry to ensure qualification for the early races

Dani Sordo will lead Prodrive’s Mini team on next month’s Rally of Portugal, with Patrik Sandell again alongside him in the second John Cooper Works WRC. Sordo will miss the next round of the series, Rally Mexico, but is expected to contest up to seven rallies in this year’s World Rally Championship for the Banbury-based team. Edwards could still push for Duel win
February 20th, 2012
Daytona 500 pole-winner Carl Edwards is not ruling out pushing for victory in Thursday’s Gatorade Duel qualifying race, even though his pole position is secure. Edwards guaranteed his top spot for the NASCAR Sprint Cup season-opener in yesterday’s qualifying session, and will retain it wherever he finishes in his Duel heat. But despite the return of fully-fledged pack racing seeing more crashes in Saturday’s Budweiser Shootout event, the Roush Fenway driver said he is open to taking risks in the Duel even though there is nothing at stake for him.

‘No big surprises’ on new Mercedes
February 20th, 2012
Norbert Haug has warned that the new Mercedes MGP W03, which will break cover tomorrow, will not feature any dramatic innovations. Glimpses seen of the car so far show that it features a stepped nose, in common with eight of the other teams to have launched 2012 machinery. But despite speculation that Mercedes’ decision to skip the first test might be motivated by a desire to hide an as-yet unseen technical innovation, Haug insists that the priority has been to come up with a well-packaged car rather than pursing any eye-catching new concepts.
