by Richard Payne on November 1st, 2012
Championship Contenders Make Early Exits A thrilling shootout at Homestead-Miami Speedway to kick-off the iRacing 16th Street Racing League season featured an unexpected winner, a host of championship contenders on the sidelines and impressive runs by several drivers who qualified via the Transfer Race earlier in the day. The GlacierTV broadcast captured the 225 mph action in breathtaking detail as many of sim-racing’s best IndyCar drivers returned Tuesday for the rebirth of the popular IndyCar league. Homestead-Miami Speedway Notes & Quotes McCracken Wins UltraForce Sim Pole Award, Donates Winnings The 11th-hour addition of Mitch McCracken to the Top 35 in the 16th Street Racing League proved to be a wise decision, as he quickly captured the first UltraForce Sim Pole Award of the season with a lap of 24.803 seconds, [...]
Button: Indian GP showed Pirelli’s merits
November 1st, 2012
Jenson Button thinks the lack of excitement in the Indian Grand Prix proves that Formula 1 has benefited from Pirelli’s efforts to spice up the sport. Although Pirelli has attempted to ensure dramatic racing by engineering high degradation levels into its tyres since it returned to f1 in 2010, in India the rubber proved long-lasting – leading to a relatively uneventful one-stop race
Hamilton: Mercedes form no concern
November 1st, 2012
Lewis Hamilton says he is not disheartened at the growing task he appears to be facing at Mercedes, with the outfit having not scored a point since he signed for it. While Hamilton remains fully focused for now on trying to help McLaren win more races, it has not escaped his attention that his future employer has endured its worst spell of the campaign. When asked in Abu Dhabi how Mercedes’s run of three races with no points makes him feel, Hamilton said: “It makes me more driven to go and score the next point at some stage!” He added: “I am very happy with the decision I made and it doesn’t impact on that
Red Bull sure Webber will do right thing
November 1st, 2012
Red Bull expects Mark Webber to do what is best for the team if circumstances dictate that he needs to help Sebastian Vettel. With the championship battle distilling down to a straight fight between Vettel and Fernando Alonso, Webber could play a crucial role in the outcome of the title battle. But although Red Bull will not impose any direct orders on Webber until he is mathematically out of the championship hunt, team principal Christian Horner said on Thursday that he has no doubts the Australian knows what is expected of him
Alonso will ‘push Red Bull to the limit’
November 1st, 2012
Fernando Alonso believes pushing Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull to breaking point in the remaining grands prix of 2012 will be key to turning the Formula 1 title race around. Vettel’s streak of four consecutive victories has given him a 13-point lead heading into 2012′s three-race denouement
Grosjean relaxed about Lotus future
November 1st, 2012
Romain Grosjean does not believe the lack of news over his Lotus future is a bad sign, despite team-mate Kimi Raikkonen’s 2013 deal already being announced. Frenchman Grosjean is expected to stay on for another year at the team, which confirmed on Monday that Raikkonen had signed a new, one-year, contract .
Vettel still feeling vulnerable
November 1st, 2012
Sebastian Vettel believes his Formula 1 world championship position remains “vulnerable” despite his burgeoning points lead. The reigning champion’s four consecutive victories heading into this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix have put him firmly in charge of what was once a wide-open title race. Vettel’s lead over long-time championship favourite Fernando Alonso is now up to 13 points with three races to go.
Chilton insists Marussia deal not done
November 1st, 2012
Max Chilton remains hopeful of securing a seat to race in Formula 1 next year after insisting he has not secured a Marussia drive yet. The Briton was appointed Marussia’s reserve driver earlier this year and has been linked with Charles Pic’s seat for the upcoming season. Chilton will get his first outing on a grand prix weekend on Friday when he replaces Pic during the opening practice session in Abu Dhabi
Bianchi still seething over Frijns clash
November 1st, 2012
Jules Bianchi has admitted he is struggling to put his Formula Renault 3.5 title-deciding clash with Robin Frijns behind him.
Perez: McLaren deal not affecting focus
November 1st, 2012
Sergio Perez has rubbished any suggestion that securing a McLaren deal for 2013 has affected his focus on his 2012 Formula 1 campaign with Sauber. The Mexican has not scored any points in the three races since his team switch was announced. He crashed out in Japan – ironically while battling with Lewis Hamilton, the man he will replace at McLaren – finished outside the points in Korea, and had an incident with Daniel Ricciardo in India
Raikkonen: One-year deal ‘easier’
November 1st, 2012
Kimi Raikkonen claims he has signed a one-year contract with Lotus because it makes his life easier should he want to do something else. The Finn, who returned to Formula 1 this year after two seasons in the World Rally Championship, recently extended his Lotus deal into 2013. Although his partnership with Lotus has been successful so far, taking him to third in the current standings, Raikkonen says it does not make sense for him to commit to the long term
McLaren: Main focus is wins, not title
November 1st, 2012
McLaren can stop worrying about championship points and just push for a string of wins in the final races of the 2012 Formula 1 season, says its technical director Paddy Lowe. With the Woking team now 101 points behind constructors’ championship leader Red Bull with 129 available before the end of the campaign, and Ferrari ahead of it in second place, McLaren’s title hopes appear all but dead
India’s lack of excitement a ‘one-off’
November 1st, 2012
The Indian Grand Prix’s dearth of excitement was a one-off due to a misjudged DRS zone, reckons McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe. Last weekend’s Buddh race was one of the least exciting rounds of what has been a largely entertaining 2012 Formula 1 season. While Red Bull’s domination and the behaviour of the Pirelli tyres has been blamed , Lowe believes if the DRS zone had been positioned differently, fans would still have seen plenty of overtaking

After weeks of speculation about his future, Hulkenberg was confirmed as a Sauber driver for the 2013 season on Wednesday. Force India team-mate di Resta admitted he was surprised by Hulkenberg’s decision, as he doubts Sauber is a step up from his current team.

Zanardi to test DTM title-winning BMW
November 1st, 2012
Alex Zanardi will test BMW’s DTM title-winning M3 at the Nurburgring on 8 November, as he considers a return to motorsport in the touring car series next season. The double Champ Car champion turned Paralympic gold medallist , who lost both legs in a crash at Lausitz in 2001, was a race-winner for BMW’s World Touring Car programme before switching to handbike racing after the ’09 season. BMW motorsport chief Jens Marquardt is confident the DTM car can be effectively modified so that Zanardi can be the first amputee to try the series’ machinery

The Hinwil squad confirmed on Wednesday that the 25-year-old German will join its line-up after two years with Force India, the first as a reserve driver. Sauber is enjoying its strongest season to date, having been on the podium four times in 17 races, while Force India is yet to finish in the top three this year
