Mateschitz against F1 tyre ‘lottery’
May 16th, 2012
Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz believes Formula 1′s thrilling start the season may be great news for fans, but he feels it has turned the sport into a lottery for teams. Five different drivers from five different teams have won the first five races of the season in one of the most open championship starts in the sport in recent times. While Mateschitz acknowledges the unpredictability is great for the fans, he feels this year’s tyres are making the racing a lottery, as he thinks no team has managed to understand how they work so far.

May 16th, 2012
McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh believes winning the Monaco Grand Prix would be a deserved reward for Lewis Hamilton. Rossi aiming for further step at Le Mans
May 16th, 2012
Valentino Rossi says the top six, rather than a repeat of his 2011 podium, will be Ducati’s main target at MotoGP’s forthcoming French Grand Prix. The Italian scored his only rostrum of the season at the Le Mans circuit last year, but he insists this year’s focus is on making incremental progress – and therefore seeking only to better his seventh-place finish at Estoril. “Le Mans is another place where the weather can be challenging, particularly at this time of year, but it’s also the track where I had my best result with the Ducati last year,” Rossi said.
Busch fined for pit road incident
May 16th, 2012
Kurt Busch has been fined by NASCAR for a pit road incident last weekend following the conclusion of Saturday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway. The 2004 champion hit the back of Ryan Newman’s Stewart Haas Chevy on pit road and crew members from his team and Newman’s were later involved in a scuffle. Busch had been a top-ten contender before a late spin, while Newman also spun behind him trying to avoid hitting the #51 car of Busch, but their incidents seemed unrelated to the post-race issue, which was under investigation from NASCAR

Marco Andretti is convinced that the Andretti Autosport team is in good shape for next weekend’s Indy 500 after topping the fourth day of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Andretti’s 40.2367s lap was clocked at 223.676mph, putting him just ahead of Penske’s Helio Castroneves (222.025mph) and his Andretti team-mate James Hinchcliffe (221.864mph), and he said that he was delighted with how his car was developing
Double R joins Euro Series for Brands
May 15th, 2012
Double R Racing will make its F3 Euro Series debut at Brands Hatch this weekend with a pair of cars for regular British championship drivers Geoff Uhrhane and Fahmi Ilyas. Anthony Hieatt’s team is using the event, plus the following round at Spielberg, to allow its drivers to gain experience of the Hankook rubber that will be used at the Norisring event in July, when both the British championship and Euro Series run together for the first time. “We’ve never done a European championship round before so we’re really looking forward to giving Geoff and Fahmi some extra time in the car, especially as it’s our home track,” said Hieatt, “The team always likes racing at Brands and the mileage will be good for both drivers, their deals were done very late so an extra race meeting can only be good for them

Lotus certain victory is imminent
May 15th, 2012
Lotus boss Eric Boullier says he is not frustrated by the failure of his team to win the Spanish Grand Prix, because he thinks a victory is just around the corner. Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean had gone in to Sunday’s race as many people’s favourites for the win on the back of impressive long-run form in practice. However, neither was able to match the pace of runaway leaders Pastor Maldonado and Fernando Alonso in the opening stages, and Raikkonen’s late-race charge came too late to allow him to finish better than third.

Maldonado ‘made critics shut up’
May 15th, 2012
Pastor Maldonado did more than enough with his victory at the Spanish Grand Prix to be able to tell his critics to ‘shut up’, says Williams board member Toto Wolff. The Venezuelan driver delivered a stunning performance at Barcelona to produce the maiden victory of his Formula 1 career, and prove that his value to the team is more than just the millions of pounds of sponsorship he brings
