Costa takes pole for FR3.5 finale
October 9th, 2011
Epic Racing’s Albert Costa claimed his maiden pole position in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series for the final race of 2011 at Barcelona today. The 2009 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup champion has a history of struggling to raise a budget, and has raced for the past three seasons on a combination of prize money, limited backing and support from his teams. Costa, who qualified on the front row in Saturday’s race before colliding on the first lap with Jake Rosenzweig (Mofaz), is conscious that this weekend’s meeting may be his last opportunity in single-seaters.
Magnussen dominates race one

Kevin Magnussen moved into prime position to claim the runner-up spot in this season’s British Formula 3 championship by dominating the opening race at Silverstone this afternoon. The Dane started from pole and led from lights-to-flag to record his seventh win of the year and leap ahead of Carlin team-mate Carlos Huertas in the five-way fight for second in the points. Double R Racing’s Scott Pye continued his strong end to the year by jumping champion elect Felipe Nasr (Carlin) at the start to finish second.

Wickens still wary of Vergne
October 8th, 2011
Formula Renault 3.5 championship leader Robert Wickens remains wary of the threat from title rival Jean-Eric Vergne, despite qualifying eight places ahead of his adversary for Saturday’s opening race at the series’ championship showdown at Barcelona. Vergne is the only other driver in contention for the championship. A superb run of races by the 2010 British Formula 3 champion has reduced a 34-point deficit to Wickens in August to just two points entering the Barcelona final.
Magnussen takes double pole
October 8th, 2011
Kevin Magnussen edged Carlin team-mate Carlos Huertas to the fastest time and claimed a pair of pole positions in qualifying for the final round of the 2011 British Formula 3 championship at Silverstone. The Dane, who is one of five drivers in realistic contention to finish second in the championship to Felipe Nasr this weekend, beat practice pacesetter Huertas to the top spot by just 0.055 seconds with a 1m53.044s best lap of the 3.7-mile GP circuit. Huertas led the way early on, but could not match Magnussen once the Dane found his rhythm

GP3 champion Valterri Bottas heads an influx of new drivers set to try Formula Renault 3.5 at the first post-season collective test of 2011 at Barcelona on October 11-12. The Finn, who has been linked with a move into the series next year, will test with former champions Tech 1 Racing on both Tuesday and Wednesday. “I don’t know if he will be racing for us next year,” said Tech 1 team boss Simon Abadie, “but I can hope.” Bottas will be joined at the Toulouse team by Tech 1′s regular 2011 driver Kevin Korjus and British Formula 3 race winner Lucas Foresti.
Wickens vows not to change approach
October 7th, 2011
Formula Renault 3.5 championship leader Robert Wickens says he will not change his approach for the season finale, despite a slender two-point lead over in-form Carlin team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne going into this weekend’s title showdown. The Canadian produced a competitive showing during Friday’s collective tests at Barcelona, despite contending with a set of mismatched tyres during this morning’s opening session.
Costa stays on top in second test
October 7th, 2011
Albert Costa completed a perfect start to the final round of the 2011 Formula Renault 3.5 Series at Barcelona by repeating his morning performance to go fastest in this afternoon’s second collective test. The Spaniard and his Epic Racing team utilised the advantage of an extra ‘joker’ set of tyres for their home round to the full to set a fastest lap of 1m34.421s. Pons Racing’s Nick Yelloly continued his impressive adaptation to the category by ending the afternoon second fastest, just 0.153s shy of Costa

October 7th, 2011
Draco’s Andre Negrao will not participate in this weekend’s final Formula Renault 3.5 round at Barcelona because of illness. The Brazilian has been replaced by Adrien Tambay, who drove for Pons Racing at Monaco earlier this year. “I have some dizziness and kind of movement in my head, and I think it is better not to race,” said Negrao
