Peter Gethin dies aged 71

Peter Gethin, the winner of the 1971 Italian Grand Prix, has died following a long illness. The former BRM, McLaren and Embassy Hill Lola Formula 1 driver, who famously triumphed at the race that featured just 0.61s between the top five finishers, was 71. The son of a professional jockey, Surrey-born Gethin first came to prominence when he was already in his late 20s, as a front-runner in British Formula 3, but he really found his feet in Formula 5000, winning the British title in 1969 and ’70
FOTA members to meet on Tuesday

Formula One Teams’ Association (FOTA) members are to meet on Tuesday to discuss where the body goes from here, following the shock resignation of Red Bull Racing and Ferrari last week. As AUTOSPORT exclusively revealed on Friday, Ferrari and Red Bull Racing elected to quit the organisation in the wake of mounting frustrations following a long-running row over the implementation of the Resource Restriction Agreement (RRA). Although their exit, which will become official at the start of February, prompted talk that FOTA could fall apart, high level sources within the organisation say they are actually upbeat about its future now.
Senna producers set sights on BAFTA

Senna movie producers have now set their sights on landing a prestigious BAFTA, after securing a double triumph for the documentary on Sunday. With Senna having already earned plaudits around the world since its release – the key men behind the film won a BIFA (British Independent Film Award) for Best Documentary on Sunday, before adding an AUTOSPORT Pioneering and Innovation Award. Now, with the film world building itself up for the BAFTA’s which take place early next year, writer Manish Pandey says he hopes this latest success bodes well for the future

Romain Grosjean says news that Kimi Raikkonen will drive for the current Renault team in 2012 has made him even more determined to secure a seat at the squad, which will run as Lotus next year. Raikkonen was the only 2012 Lotus driver specified on the official Formula 1 entry list when it was released by the FIA earlier this week. 2011 Renault racers Vitaly Petrov and Bruno Senna are reserve driver and GP2 champion Grosjean’s rivals for the second seat.

Petrov keen to stay on at Renault

Vitaly Petrov is keen to stay at Renault next season and would relish the chance to race alongside Kimi Raikkonen. Although the Russian’s future with the outfit is in doubt, amid reports that it is evaluating other options for its second seat in 2012, Petrov has declared himself keen to remain there. And he reckons that he would do a much better job next year than he did this season, when errors on both his and the team’s side resulted in a disappointing campaign.

The Williams team has confirmed Pastor Maldonado will enter his second season in Formula 1 with the team next year.
