Mann cleared to return to cockpit
September 9th, 2011
Pippa Mann has been given medical clearance to return to the IndyCar cockpit after suffering a fractured vertebrae in a crash last month. The 28-year-old Briton had been set for a three-race stint with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, but sustained the injury in a practice accident prior to what would have been her first start for the team at Loudon. She has now been given medical approval to drive again, and will test at Kentucky on 23 September prior to racing for Bobby Rahal’s squad in the final two rounds of the season at Kentucky and Las Vegas.

IndyCar suspends safety truck driver
September 8th, 2011
IndyCar has suspended a safety truck driver for two races after a near-miss at the start of last weekend’s race in Baltimore. The truck was driving towards an escape road on the exit of Turn 1, against the flow of traffic, as the race got underway, and only just got off the track before outside front row starter Graham Rahal came through. According to the Indianapolis Star , the truck’s crew had been attending to a tyre barrier at Turn 5 that had been found during the parade laps to be out of alignment, but the driver tried to make it back to Turn 1 rather than parking further along the track.
Rice back for final IndyCar rounds
September 8th, 2011
2004 Indianapolis 500 champion Buddy Rice will contest the final two rounds of the 2011 IndyCar season at Kentucky and Las Vegas. Rice ended a two-year IndyCar hiatus when he joined Panther Racing for the 100th running of the Indy 500 this year, and he will join up with the team again for the final two events alongside rookie points leader JR Hildebrand. Las Vegas will also mark Rice’s 100th IndyCar start

September 8th, 2011
Hideki Mutoh will return to the IndyCar fold when the series travels to Motegi, Japan, for the 16th round of the season next weekend. Mutoh will race for the Sam Schmidt Motorsport squad alongside 2011 regular Alex Tagliani, who currently lies 12th in the overall championship. Mutoh made his IndyCar debut for Super Aguri Panther Racing in 2007, and stayed in the series until 2010.
Power passes Franchitti in Rankings
September 5th, 2011
Will Power will be hoping the 2011 IndyCar title race mirrors the Castrol EDGE Rankings after getting the upper hand over chief rival Dario Franchitti this week. Power took a comprehensive victory in the inaugural Baltimore Grand Prix to cut his points deficit to Franchitti to just five points. Three rounds ago, the gap had been 62
Power eyes final push
September 4th, 2011
Will Power says winning the 2011 IndyCar title is his only goal as he heads into the final three races just five points behind rival Dario Franchitti. The Penske driver has won the last two races and taken 57 points from Franchitti in the past three, and says his chief aim is to continue that momentum in the season’s final stretch – particularly as he expects Motegi and Kentucky to suit him. “To me, second in the championship means nothing,” Power stated bluntly.
Franchitti calm amid Power resurgence
September 4th, 2011
Dario Franchitti remained calm following a Baltimore Grand Prix which saw his chief title rival win to close to within five points of the championship. Franchitti’s lead over the Australian stood at 62 points just three rounds ago, but a DNF at New Hampshire and consecutive fourth-place finishes have seen him lose ground.
Kanaan delighted with run to third
September 4th, 2011
Tony Kanaan answered his frightening warm-up accident with a superb drive from the back of the field to third at Baltimore. Kanaan had been launched into a huge airborne crash after suffering brake failure in warm-up, but was able to take KV Racing team-mate EJ Viso’s spare car for the race
Power wins to close on Franchitti
September 4th, 2011
Will Power survived what he described as the ‘toughest race of the whole year’ to be crowned the inaugural winner of IndyCar’s Baltimore Grand Prix. In warm and humid conditions, Power triumphed on an eventful afternoon that included a pile-up involving nearly half the field to cross the line just over 10s ahead of Newman/Haas Racing’s Oriol Servia.
De Silvestro tops interrupted warm-up
September 4th, 2011
Simona de Silvestro was fastest in an interrupted IndyCar warm-up session at the Baltimore street circuit. The HVM driver, who returns to the series this weekend after being forced to miss last week’s race at Sonoma due to a problem with US immigration, topped the times with a 1m24.0676s – although two interruptions due to accidents prevented any of the teams from being able to complete a significant amount of running
Kanaan escapes frightening crash
September 4th, 2011
Tony Kanaan has escaped unhurt from a huge accident during this morning’s IndyCar warm-up session at the Baltimore street circuit. The Brazilian suffered a brake failure on the approach to the first corner and was launched over the top of Penske driver Helio Castroneves. Kanaan’s car then clipped the outside concrete wall before flying through the tyre barriers, clearing the entire run-off area before finally coming to a stop.

Baltimore IndyCar practice delayed
September 2nd, 2011
On-track running at the IndyCar/American Le Mans Series round at Baltimore is expected to get underway four hours behind schedule on Friday, due to delays in getting the street circuit ready for its inaugural event this weekend. The first practice session for the USF2000 series was originally scheduled to start at 8:00am local time, but has now been put back to 12:00pm to allow track workers to finish installing barriers around some sections of the circuit. AUTOSPORT understands that sections of the barriers were removed in anticipation of Hurricane Irene, which passed near the area earlier this week
