19 years old, Jameson Spies lives in Quartz Hill, California. He grew-up surrounded by racing. His mother raced late models throughout Southern California while his father built and setup the car. Not surprisingly, Jameson began racing go-karts at the age of 13, and is now racing Spec Trucks at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. He has a passion about all forms of racing and hopes to make a career out of it.
  • Jason Lofing
    iRacing.com Series Writer
Jason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.
  • Ray Bryden
    Technical contributor
Ray grew up in Nova Scotia, which means he’s a hockey nut, but in Nova Scotia’s two non-winter months he had to find other diversions, which meant watching F1 racing on weekends with his dad and brothers. Without the resources to get started in racing, he gravitated to computer versions of racing – first Atari games like Pole Position, followed by PC racing games like Indianapolis 500: The Simulation. Dozens of others came and went, until Grand Prix Legends came along and he decided sim-racing was his official hobby. Years were spent enjoying this both offline and online until a few years of fatherhood took priority. When free-time reappeared he heard about iRacing and signed up in 2008 and became so involved in the service that he wrote one of the first books on the subject of sim-racing, iRacing Paddock. When not writing for inRacingNews.com, his main occupation is as a research associate with Saint-Gobain working on advanced ceramic materials.

Patrick Atherton, originally from Adelaide in the state of South Australia, currently resides just outside of Melbourne, Victoria with wife of 17 years and 3 kids. A business manager by profession, but also dabbles with blogging, cartooning and fine art, having been published both as a writer in a short-lived South Australian motorsport yearbook and later as a cartoonist in a niche trade magazine. At the age of 19 he competed in club circuit events in an Austin Healey Sprite, later indulging in sprint karts between 1994 and 2000. Following the move to the State of Victoria he raced Road Race Karts (“Superkarts” as they are known in Australia) in the popular Rotax class, competing at Phillip Island, Oran Park, Mallala, Wakefield Park, Eastern Creek, Calder Park, Sandown and Winton. It was during this time he met former Australian F2 champion and inventor of Australia’s first, and most prolific race simulator rig, Jon Crooke. This culminated in an introduction to Papyrus’ legendary NR2003 simulation, and the subsequent sim racing addiction which brought him to iRacing.
  • Tim Terry
    Contributing Writer
Tim Terry, aka the voice of Maritime stock car racing, fell in love with sim racing in 2004 after he joined the Sim Racing Network crew as a pit reporter. From October 2004 to SRNtv’s closure in June 2007, he’s covered prestigious races and leagues such as the Online 500, FLM Fall 400, Real Racing Online and the DMP Racing League – each as the lead broadcaster for the company. At the same time the wheels started to turn in another direction as he began announcing stock car racing locally. Terry became the assistant announcer at Scotia Speedworld in May 2007 and took over full duties in May 2009 when long-time voice Mike Kaplan retired from the track. Terry also became the series voice of the Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour in ’09 and continues to hold down both posts in 2011. IndyCar boss backs Barnhart

IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard has said that the series’ president of race operations Brian Barnhart has his full support, despite the controversy surrounding the finish to the New Hampshire race a fortnight ago. Barnhart found himself the subject of widespread criticism after attempting to restart the race in wet conditions while the cars were fitted with slicks; a call that resulted in several drivers losing control and crashing. He later took full responsibility for the decision and admitted his error, but the incident still left question marks over whether he could regain the confidence of the teams and drivers.

Power: Sears Point key to title race

Will Power believes that this weekend’s IndyCar race at Sears Point is key to keeping his hopes of reeling in Dario Franchitti’s points lead alive. Franchitti heads into the weekend with a 47-point buffer over Power with five races to go, and Power – who won the Sonoma race last year – said that a good result on Sunday will be vital if he is to stay in the hunt. “[The championship] is going to come down to who is going to make the least amount of mistakes,” the Penske driver said.

Power fined heavily over outburst

Will Power has been fined US$30,000 and put on probation for the rest of the season following his outburst against IndyCar race officials at the last round at New Hampshire. The Penske driver ended up in the wall after trying to avoid Danica Patrick’s spinning car when the race was restarted in wet conditions eight laps from the end. After remonstrating with officials from inside the car, he later branded their actions as “disgraceful” during a TV interview and said that resuming the event in such conditions had put drivers in serious danger

Ryan Hunter-Reay’s controversial victory at New Hampshire has been upheld after a three-man IndyCar panel denied protests lodged by the Newman/Haas and Chip Ganassi Racing squads. Hunter-Reay was declared the winner by race organisers, but controversy reigned as Oriol Servia (Newman/Haas) and Scott Dixon (Ganassi) passed him on the final restart prior to the race being halted. Several cars lost control on that final restart however, which was made in wet conditions that several drivers and teams thought too much to return to racing.

Andretti backs Power’s outburst

American racing legend Mario Andretti believes that Will Power’s outburst following last weekend’s controversial finish to the Loudon IndyCar Series race will not harm the series’ image. Power was caught on camera making an angry gesture towards race control after the field was ordered to restart on a wet track with a few laps to go, triggering a multi-car accident. This was followed up with an outburst on TV directed towards IndyCar president of competition Brian Barnhart.

IndyCar sets panel for protest hearing

IndyCar president of competition Brian Barnhart has revealed the identity of the panel called to hear the protests lodged by Newman/Haas and Ganassi against Ryan Hunter-Reay’s victory in last week’s controversial finish to the Indy 225 at New Hampshire. NH Motor Speedway general manager Jerry Gappens, USAC chairman Jeff Stoops and former USAC president Rollie Helmling will form the three-man committee that will rule on the protests on August 23. Organisers declared Andretti Autosport’s Hunter-Reay the winner of the race, but the two rival teams contested the result because their drivers Oriol Servia (Newman/Haas) and Scott Dixon (Ganassi) had passed the #28 machine on the final restart prior to the race being halted.

It was never restarted

Power slides again in Rankings

Will Power may have closed the gap to championship leader Dario Franchitti at New Hampshire, but he couldn’t prevent a fall down the Castrol EDGE Rankings for a second consecutive week. The Australian finished fifth in a farcical end to the race, with stewards deciding to restart despite wet and largely undriveable conditions. The result saw him close to within 50 points of Dario Franchitti in the championship, the Scot having earlier crashed from the lead on lap 118

Hunter-Reay says win still satisfying

Ryan Hunter-Reay said his first win of the season at New Hampshire was still satisfying despite the confusing circumstances in which it was finally confirmed. Having assumed control of the race following Dario Franchitti’s crash, Hunter-Reay led the field at the final, controversial restart but lost out to Oriol Servia and Scott Dixon after a poor initial getaway. He then had to wait in the pit-lane as race officials pondered whether to reset the race or restart for the final five laps, before finally being confirmed as the winner as – much to Servia’s chargrin – they elected to finish the race using each driver’s position prior to the wet restart

Power slams IndyCar officials

August 14th, 2011

Will Power delivered a scathing verdict on the IndyCar officials and their decision to restart the race in wet conditions eight laps from the end. Power, running fifth at the time, was caught out as Danica Patrick spun on his outside, and had little room – or grip – to manoeuvre, eventually ending up in the wall with a gaggle of other cars
