Alex Lynn has been named British Club Driver of the Year at the AUTOSPORT Awards in London. The 18-year-old Briton, who won the Formula Renault UK title this year, beat off competition from Formula Ford champion Scott Malvern, Renault Clio Cup title-winner Paul Rivett, British GT ace Jonathan Adam, Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion James Sutton and Formula Renault BARC title-winner Dino Zamparelli to win the award

Young British drivers Emil Bernstorff, Tom Blomqvist, Alex Lynn, Scott Malvern, Oliver Rowland and Dino Zamparelli will find out tonight which of them has won the 2011 McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award at the annual AUTOSPORT Awards in London. The victor will join the likes of David Coulthard, Dario Franchitti, Jenson Button, Gary Paffett and Paul di Resta on the list of winners of the prestigious award, which this year features a cash prize of £100,000 as well as the traditional McLaren Formula 1 test, plus full BRDC membership, Puma racewear for a year, and a TW Steel watch. The six contenders were assessed in Mercedes DTM, Formula 2 and McLaren GT3 machinery over two days at Silverstone last month

Hand to test BMW DTM car

Joey Hand will test BMW’s new DTM car at Monteblanco next week, while new signing Bruno Spengler will also have his first run-out for the manufacturer. Hand, 32, won the ALMS GT crown for BMW this year and was the star driver in the BMW-engined Riley that won the Daytona 24 Hours for Chip Ganassi Racing, and has now been given the chance to test the M3 DTM by the manufacturer’s motorsport director Jens Marquardt
Nurburgring signs new DTM deal

The Nurburgring will remain on the DTM calendar until at least 2014 after signing a new three-year agreement with the championship. The German Grand Prix venue was listed as a ‘TBC’ on a provisional 2012 calendar published by the DTM in September, and has now been rubber-stamped by championship organiser the ITR.

Green takes Hockenheim victory

Jamie Green took his first victory of 2011 in the final DTM race of the season at Hockenheim. From the front row, the British driver out-dragged polesitter Miguel Molina into the first corner, and was never challenged throughout the rest of the 38-lap race. By lap five the HWA Mercedes man was already 2.5s clear, and he increased his lead to as much as 7s before the end to take the seventh win of his DTM career and the first since last year’s Norisring race
Molina denies Green Hockenheim pole

Miguel Molina denied Jamie Green a first DTM pole for five years with a storming effort to take the top spot for this weekend’s season finale at Hockenheim. The Spaniard, who was also on pole at Oschersleben recently, was the last man to take to the track in the one-lap final section of qualifying after going quickest in Q3 in his old-spec Abt Audi.

BMW DTM livery revealed

BMW has revealed the livery of its M3 DTM machinery ahead of this weekend’s season finale at Hockenheim. The manufacturer, which will re-enter the championship next year after a 20-year absence, presented the car in its traditional white, blue and red motorsport livery.
Tomczyk sets early Hockenheim pace

New DTM champion Martin Tomczyk set the pace in the first free practice session for this weekend’s season finale at Hockenheim. The Phoenix Audi driver, who wrapped up the title last time out at Valencia, only hit the front in the final minute, his 1m33.621s lap in his old-spec A4 knocking Christian Vietoris’ Persson Mercedes off the top spot by 0.263s.
Schumacher secures new DTM deal

Ralf Schumacher will continue to race for Mercedes-Benz in the 2012 DTM season after securing an extension to his deal. The German driver, the younger brother of seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael, made his DTM debut in 2008 and next season will mark his fifth campaign in the series. Schumacher scored his first two podium finishes in the DTM this year, with a third place at Hockenheim and a second at the Red Bull Ring.

Rene Rast, Jean-Karl Vernay and Richie Stanaway will all test BMW’s 2012 DTM car at Lausitz next week as the manufacturer continues to evaluate drivers for its line-up next year. The young trio will join Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus – already confirmed for next year’s championship – plus factory BMW GT drivers Jorg Muller and Dirk Werner at the test.
