Off and Rolling in Darlington

Ray Alfalla slipped and slid his way to six wins

This Season for the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series (NiCAS) is off and rolling, and it rolled right into quite possibly the toughest oval track in the world for Week Two of the twelve week season. The famed Darlington Speedway is known for its rough and tumble racing, and this week did not disappoint. Making laps around the 1.366 mile, one groove, egg of a track is hard enough when practicing all alone, add 30+ cars into the mix and you have a recipe for mayhem. As to be expected, the yellow flag was out early and often in the majority of races and drivers struggled to find any grip or room to race. Even the best setup slips and slides all over the place, which is why experience always [...]

Alfalla Tames Lady in Black

Alfalla (2) had an answer for everyone, including Ottinger (05) en route to his third win of the season.

Defending Champ Grabs Third Straight Victory for JRM Ray Alfalla continued his early season dominance of the 2012 NASACAR iRacing.com Series World Championship, picking-up his third win of the season at Darlington Raceway. It was also the third straight victory for JRMotorsports, with teammate Steve Sheehan winning two weeks ago at Richmond on the heels of Alfalla’s visit to victory lane at Texas. In fact, it was Sheehan who Alfalla had to hold-off on the final 44 lap dash for the checkers. Sheehan appeared to be slightly quicker than Alfalla during the last run.  However, the Richmond winner got a little too aggressive with his grille tape, causing his car to overheat if he stayed tucked up behind Alfalla for more than a couple laps. Sheehan could attack and get [...]

Busch fined for pit road incident

Kurt Busch has been fined by NASCAR for a pit road incident last weekend following the conclusion of Saturday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Darlington Raceway. The 2004 champion hit the back of Ryan Newman’s Stewart Haas Chevy on pit road and crew members from his team and Newman’s were later involved in a scuffle. Busch had been a top-ten contender before a late spin, while Newman also spun behind him trying to avoid hitting the #51 car of Busch, but their incidents seemed unrelated to the post-race issue, which was under investigation from NASCAR

Patrick glad to reach goals in Cup race

Danica Patrick said she accomplished the goals she set for her second Sprint Cup outing, her first at Darlington, finishing 31st on Saturday night’s 500-miler. The Stewart-Haas driver had an uneventful race at one of NASCAR’s toughest venues, having started the weekend 1.5 seconds off the pace in Friday’s opening practice, where she also had a first brush with the wall. However, she showed improved pace throughout the weekend despite a slow start to her race, soon falling a lap down as the event unusually ran caution-free for the first 171 laps

Patrick just wants finish on Cup return

Danica Patrick says her only goal for her second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series outing at Darlington is to see the chequered flag at one of the championship’s toughest venues. Despite running a full season in the Nationwide Series, Patrick will only be making her second Cup start in the #10 Stewart Haas Racing Chevrolet on Saturday night, following a tough baptism in NASCAR’s elite series in the Daytona 500, where she was involved in incidents in both the qualifying race and the main event.

Out of the Gate

The 2012 S2 NiCAS wasted no time getting down to business at Talladega.

A new season is upon us in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series (NiCAS), and there was no messing around as the series took to the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway right out of the gate. With the current iRacing.com build of the Chevrolet Impala SS, the drafting in the sim models itself much like the drafting we all see when the Sprint Cup Series takes to the restrictor plate tracks. With “Tandem Drafting” in play, as well as cars prone to overheating, it would prove to be a ballroom dance at speeds over 200mph. Coming into the week, much was in there air about what kind of racing we would see. Early in the week however, it was shown that the tandem drafting method would reign superior over pack [...]

Penske: Keselowski can deliver title

Roger Penske is confident Brad Keselowski will deliver his NASCAR organisation their maiden Sprint Cup title following his second win of the season at Talladega on Sunday. Penske, who has enjoyed a successful start to his teams’ 2012 campaigns with six wins across his NASCAR and IndyCar programs, was full of praise for Keselowski following his victory on Sunday, labeling his performance ‘perfect’. The ‘Captain’ has only once won a title after 40 years of his organization fielding cars in NASCAR, the lone championship trophy coming courtesy of Keselowski’s Nationwide crown in 2010

Keselowski beats Busch to victory

Brad Keselowski claimed his second victory of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season as he left Kyle Busch behind in the last dash of a green-white-chequered finish at Talladega. The Penske driver got the decisive push from Busch on the penultimate lap when the green waved for the last time, following a multi-car incident ignited by Keselowski’s team-mate AJ Allmendinger, who made contact with Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin. The Roush Fenway duo of Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle had been quickest off the line and pulled away initially until they got disconnected, losing their momentum while watching the Dodge/Toyota tandem pass them

Earnhardt: Talladega is my chance

Dale Earnhardt Jr is optimistic that Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega could be the event where he finally brings his long winless streak to an end. The Hendrick Motorsports driver, a five-time winner at Talladega, has been a top contender in recent restrictor-plate events, pushing team-mate Jimmie Johnson to victory a year ago at the 2.66-mile venue and most recently finishing second in the season-opening Daytona 500

Gordon claims pole at Talladega

Jeff Gordon claimed his 71st career pole position in qualifying for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Talladega. Taking an unusual approach to his qualifying run, Gordon was able to beat the session’s long-standing benchmark set earlier by Penske’s AJ Allmendinger, with a second flying lap of 49.973 seconds, at an average speed of 191.623mph, and was the only driver to break under the 50-second mark
