Earnhardt coy on Patrick reports
August 19th, 2011
Dale Earnhardt Jr remains tight-lipped about the chances of Danica Patrick making a full switch to NASCAR with his Nationwide Series team, amid suggestions that an announcement will be made as early as next week. Following reports that Patrick has already committed to run full-time in NASCAR’s second-tier series with JR Motorsports from 2012, with the potential for Sprint Cup outings as well, Earnhardt insisted his team was not planning any announcements yet – but admitted he would be happy to continue the relationship with Patrick
Illini Mighty at Michigan
by Tim Terry on August 18th, 2011
Illinois sim racer Brandon Buchberger flexed his muscle during Week Two as he took the overall win in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) at Michigan International Speedway. Over 2000 sim racers took to the track, but it was a win on August 14th that put Buchberger over the top for the victory. Buchberger bagged the win to take home 236 points. With an sof rating pegged at a 3770, the winner led just seven laps in the highly competitive race which featured a total of 21 lead changes over the 80 lap duration. The race was slowed by six yellow flags and saw Justin Fuller come home in second, ahead of Kwame Adjei, Carl Taylor and Ryan Ameen. Justin Brooks led the race with five laps to go [...]
One Giant Leap
by Jameson Spies on August 18th, 2011
For the first time this season, the NASCAR iRacing Class A Series turned both left and right, in their trip to Watkins Glen. History tells us the road courses are usually a slow week for the primarily oval division, however, history led us astray this time as the big names were out and the points totals were high for Week 2 of 2011 Season 3. Street Stock champion Nick Ottinger made the (giant) leap up to the top oval car, and handled it masterfully as he won both his starts, and took top honors for the week. Ottinger’s 284 points are unprecedented for a road coarse event for the Impala series, but he was not the only sim racer who came out of New York with a smile. Fellow NASCAR [...]
Royce Rumbles at Richmond
by Tim Terry on August 17th, 2011
Untamed Motorsports continued their trip to the top of the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series in Week Two with Royce Valley topping the field of ground-pounders as the victor at the Richmond International Raceway. The first race on August 9th proved to be the big race for the week as four of the top five spots in the weekly standings were occupied by sim racers who scored top finishes in the 100-lap affair. Valley’s win in the 3594 sof race gained the Modified veteran 225 points at the Richmond oval. Valley led the final 13 laps of the race, defeating Taylor Meyn, who led the most laps of the event, pacing the field for 69 laps. Brandon Salvatore came home in third after leading 18 laps from the pole while [...]
Third Win’s a Charm
by Jason Lofing on August 17th, 2011
Brad Davies passed JR Motorsports teammate John Gorlinsky for the lead with nine laps to go to win the NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC) race at Chicagoland Speedway. The 2010 NiSWC runner-up survived a run-in with Josh Parker on pit entry in the closing stages of the race to claim a series-best third win of 2011 while also improving his position in the championship standings. Coming into Chicagoland, all the sim racers knew a good qualifying position would be critical to their chances of success as passing has proven to be extremely challenging once the new tires recently introduced by iRacing have a few laps on them. Parker put himself in the best position possible by taking pole position with a blistering lap that was half a tenth faster [...]
Ambrose claims maiden Cup win
August 15th, 2011
Australian Marcos Ambrose claimed his maiden Sprint Cup series win with a commanding drive at a rain-delayed event at Watkins Glen. The former Australian V8 Supercar champion backed up his favoritism and superior pace with victory at his 105th attempt in NASCAR’s main series, crucially jumping to the lead on the final restart with two laps remaining after Kyle Busch locked up his brakes entering Turn 1.
NASCAR postpones Watkins Glen
August 14th, 2011
Rain has forced Sunday’s Sprint Cup series race at Watkins Glen to be postponed until Monday morning. Despite a poor weather forecast showing imminent rain in the afternoon, NASCAR officials did everything in their power to get the race underway, first waiting for noon showers to cease, then attempting to dry the track as soon as the rain stopped. Nearly three and a half hours after the scheduled starting time the rain returned however, hampering the officials’ efforts and forcing them to postpone the race until Monday.
Kyle Busch claims Watkins Glen pole
August 13th, 2011
Kyle Busch claimed his first road course pole position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup after heading qualifying for Sunday’s race at Watkins Glen. The Joe Gibbs Toyota driver was the last in the order to complete his flying lap after setting the pace in first practice.
Johnson, Busch feud drags on
August 13th, 2011
The feud between Jimmie Johnson and Kurt Busch that began at last weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono has dragged on to the current round at Watkins Glen. Last Sunday Johnson and Busch clashed on the final lap at Pocono while battling for third place, with the growing animosity then bubbling over into a heated discussion in the pits when the race was over
Gordon wants road course in the Chase
August 12th, 2011
Jeff Gordon believes the NASCAR Sprint Cup’s 10-race Chase for the Championship would benefit from having a road course race in the future. The four-time Cup champion, who has won more road course races at NASCAR’s top level than anyone else, says that the only significant thing missing from the Chase is a non-oval race, and that the implementation of double-file restarts would add an extra dimension to the mix for drivers and fans
Ambrose eager for maiden Cup win
August 12th, 2011
Marcos Ambrose hopes to be able to break his duck in the Sprint Cup series as he arrives as one of the clear favorites to this weekend’s race at Watkins Glen. The Australian has the best finishing average of all drivers at the track, claiming two third-place finishes and one second, leading a combined 17 laps in his three Cup races at the venue
Gibbs, Toyota join forces for 2012
August 11th, 2011
Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota Racing Development will join forces in a single engine programme to build NASCAR Toyota units from 2012. The leading Toyota outfit had been reviewing its engine programe following reliability issues that have hampered its this season, but instead of scrapping its own effort, JGR will add to the strengths of the TRD-built units. Joe Gibbs Racing drivers have suffered from repeated failures during the year, not only in races but also during practice sessions.
Majors Majors in NASCAR Class A
by Jameson Spies on August 11th, 2011
The twelve week countdown to the NASCAR iRacing Pro Series started last week at Pocono Raceway, with iRacers from all over the world tackling the “Tricky Triangle.” Getting the 3,450 pound, 750+ Chevrolet Impala around the tri-cornered, bumpy, odd ball of a track is no easy task. With that being said, many Class A drivers attacked the track, and came out of Long Pond, Pennsylvania with a lot of confidence, and the points to go with it. TJ Majors led the way among the Pro hopefuls with a staggering 298 points, topping all Class A sim racers and only trailing current NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship driver Brad Davies by five markers. Majors, who many people know as Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s spotter in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, only ran [...]

Keselowski skips Nationwide race
August 11th, 2011
Brad Keselowski will skip Saturday’s Nationwide Series race at Watkins Glen as he continues to recover from his testing accident from last week. The Penske driver was set to be on double-duty next weekend, but following his second Sprint Cup win of the season, which places him as the favorite to land one of the wildcard entries into this year’s Chase, he is set to place his focus on his Cup programme in order to remain eligible for the playoff. Keselowski basically needs to be among the top 20 in points in five-week’s time in order to become a championship contender for the first time, and this weekend’s race at Watkins Glen is set to place his injured ankle under massive stress, being regarded as the toughest venue for brakes.

August 11th, 2011
Pocono Raceway officials have announced that their 2012 Sprint Cup races will be 100 miles shorter than in the past, becoming 400-mile events.

August 11th, 2011
2011 Season 3 of the highly competition NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series got started with a bang on Week 1 as Untamed Motorsports drew first blood with Shane Kline topping the point charts after three days of online racing at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Kline, who represents the Carolina club, led a top five which featured three Untamed drivers. Two starts for Kline equated to two wins for the veteran of the Tour Modified ranks. The biggest came in a 3173 sof race on Tuesday which saw Kline nail-down 198 points for the week after leading wire-to-wire in the 100-lap affair. Untamed Motorsports had a strong presence in the race with Jerold John, Royce Valley, Paul Wisniewski and Dave Peterson completing the top five in the 15 car field with [...]
