Iowa’s Battle Royal
by Jameson Spies on January 12th, 2012
The NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series brought excitement with them as online racing competitors made the trip to Iowa for Week Ten of their twelve week season. As if Iowa Speedway’s unique 7/8 mile oval did not provide enough setup nightmares for crew chiefs, the Chevrolet Impalas roared to life under the night sky for only the third time this season. History tells us when the lights come on, the action heats up — and this week lived up to those expectations. It was an eventful week for NiCLAS Division One points leader Kile Gottula, as he slots in second overall in the standings behind this week’s leader Reilly L Doyle. Doyle and Gottula became very familiar with each other throughout the week, as both made two starts – in [...]

In this case, drivers were looking to tame Lanier National’s 3/8th mile oval with the season winding-down. In all, 971 drivers attempted a race during the week with 424 of them making at least one qualifying attempt. Weekly High Strength of Field Last week’s high Strength of Field (SoF) race had an SoF of 3216 which paid 195 points to win. Jordan Werth (Florida) come out on top after starting on the pole and leading every lap. NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship driver Patrick Fogel finish in second, only a tenth of a second behind worth. For his second place finish, Fogel (Pennsylvania) received [...]
Setting the Stage
by Jason Lofing on January 11th, 2012
Michigan International Speedway played host to the penultimate race of the 2011 NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series season and, with the series championship and automatic berths in the 2012 NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship still up for grabs, last night’s online race figured to set the stage for next week’s dramatic season finale. While all eyes were on series co-points leaders Matt Whitten and Marcus Lindsey who started third and eleventh, respectively, it was Robert Hall who stole the NiPS thunder with a convincing win. Pole-winner Michael Conti took the green flag and, together with Jeremy Thornton, quickly built a sizable gap on the field. The two ran nose-to-tail for the initial fuel run, with Conti leading all but one of the first 37 laps before finally giving way to Thornton, [...]

Cormier Corners Concord Win; Salvatore Mighty at Milwaukee
by Tim Terry on January 9th, 2012
The Week Eight story in the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series (NiTMS) turned into the strength of performances by two sim racers looking to move up the ladder in the Modified ranks. While Derrick Cormier2 scored the overall win of the week, it was Brett Osborn who took the top split race of the week. The story behind the two though was that they both made a half dozen starts or more each on the tricky Concord Speedway triangle configuration! Osborn’s big win out of his eight starts during Round Eight came on Thursday’s 2774 Strength of Field (SoF) race. Osborn led just over a quarter of the 100-laps in the online race, which featured four cautions and saw two lead changes. Modified veteran Paul Wisniewski was second, followed by [...]

Stenhouse became the first man to win the Nationwide title under the new system in which drivers could only compete for one NASCAR series crown per year, ending the era of the second-tier championship invariably going to a Cup regular contesting a parallel schedule.

by Tim Terry on January 6th, 2012
Thomas D Smith danced with the draft all the way to the top of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series at Talladega Superspeedway during Week Eight competition at the popular track. Over 2,200 sim racers tried their hand at the unique breed of online oval racing and when the dust settled and the points were tallied, it was the 2011 Season Three runner-up who stood tall over all who dared to tackle the 2.66-mile tri-oval. Smith’s win came in a 4565 Strength of Field (SoF) race on Tuesday in which he led 17 of 50 lap en route to the win. Pole sitter Adrian Duncan was second in the event, followed by Dylan Duval, Rodney Harris and David Rattler. NASCAR iRacing Pro Series driver Matt Whitten led the most laps [...]

Hendrick: Supply role not in doubt
January 3rd, 2012
NASCAR team boss Rick Hendrick says he has no doubts about providing rival Sprint Cup teams with cars and engines despite the fact that Tony Stewart used Hendrick equipment to win the championship for Stewart-Haas this year. Stewart’s team is one of several to buy in chassis and engines from one of the bigger teams, and he went on to win the title while Hendrick’s top driver was Jimmie Johnson in sixth. However, Hendrick says he has no problem with other teams beating his with the same equipment, and he called on his own team to raise its game to match Stewart-Haas in the future.

Warren’s Dover Strategy Pays
by Jason Lofing on December 21st, 2011
Dover International Speedway played host to Week Eight of the NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS) season and saw Alex Warren deny Nick Ottinger’s bid for a third straight win in the series. Ottinger made his presence known, leading 59 of 200 laps, but Warren had the speed and track position when it counted, leading the final six laps to earn his second win of the season. The Monster Mile didn’t come by its nickname by accident, as the high-banked, bowl of concrete is often the site of some rough and tumble action. This online race was cleaner than anticipated, however, as the event had two long green flag runs including two rounds of green flag stops, both of which had a pronounced affect on the outcome. It came down to [...]

by Tim Terry on December 19th, 2011
Defending NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) Champion Ashley Miller showcased his talent once again in the series by taking the overall win during Week Six of the 2011 Season Four season at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Miller’s victory in the 3012 Sterngth of Field (SoF) race on Tuesday put him over the top for Round Six with 188 points. Second place belonged to Alan Jones while pole-sitter Heath Hindman, Roger Wagner and Phil Brown completed the top five. NASCAR acts on tandem drafting
December 16th, 2011
NASCAR has revealed the technical changes that it hopes will eliminate the tandem drafting that dominated restrictor plate races in 2011. The trend for cars to hook up in pairs started in the non-championship races ahead of the Daytona 500 in February, as advances in engine cooling meant that drivers could run close together without overheating their engines
