Fun in the Sun
by Michael Conti on November 18th, 2011
The NASCAR iRacing.com Class B Series (NiCBS) tackled perpetually sunny Phoenix International Raceway for Week 2 of the online racing series’ 12 week season. PIR featured a lot of great sim racing, probably some of the most intense racing that this series has seen so far this season. Because of the track’s short, flat layout, bumping and banging was the norm for the week which in turn brought-out the trusty iRacing Mustang Pace Car so often during the course of the week that iRacing’s virtual mechanics had to work overtime performing routine maintenance. The highest Strength of Field (SoF) race this past week came on Friday night. The 3344 SoF event was definitely a great one to watch and take part in, as the intensity level was high because the [...]
Stewart feeling no pressure
November 18th, 2011
Tony Stewart believes he enters the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title decider with the least pressure and claims he has nothing to lose in the season finale at Homestead. The two-time Cup champion ranks only three points behind his Roush Fenway rival, having only led the standings for a week during the Chase following an impressive run during the play-off, albeit not as consistent as Edwards’.
Edwards ‘ready’ for title
November 18th, 2011
Carl Edwards says he feels ready to become a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion at Homestead on Sunday and does not believe his experience deficit relative to title rival Tony Stewart is crucial heading into the season finale.
Same Old PIR
by Jameson Spies on November 17th, 2011
Week 2 of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series (NiCAS) took competitors to the very tricky Phoenix International Raceway. Unlike their physical world counterparts, iRacing.com members had to tackled the slick, old, sun baked pavement and traditional PIR configuration. Getting the 750+ horsepower to find traction on the exit of the greasy corners would be key for anyone hopeful of finding victory lane. The tougher the track the more setup is key to success, especially when there isn’t the slightest amount of grip. Teammates held-down the top five positions in the weekly standings, as they dialed-in their NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS) setups. Marcus Lindsey led the charge with 311 points, leading 89 of the 110 laps in his only start on Monday. Daniel Pope II came home 1.171 seconds [...]
NASCAR working on tandem drafts
November 17th, 2011
Drivers and NASCAR officials say they are still looking for ways to limit tandem racing at restrictor plate tracks following a Sprint Cup Series test at Daytona on Tuesday. Six drivers ran on the 2.5-mile high banks trying different restrictor plates, spoilers and suspension settings among other possible solutions as NASCAR hopes to at least limit the two-car drafting that has prevailed this year both at the Florida track and Talladega.
Harvick willing to help Stewart
November 16th, 2011
Kevin Harvick hopes to give fellow Chevrolet driver Tony Stewart a push in his bid to win a third Sprint Cup series title.
Lindsey Rebounds at Homestead
by Jason Lofing on November 16th, 2011
Marcus Lindsey’s troubled 24th place finish last week at Phoenix International Raceway seems like the distant past after he grabbed his second win of the young 2011 NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series (NiPS) season at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Tuesday evening. Unlike his win in the season opener at Texas, Lindsey did not have the car to beat in South Florida. Instead, he was in the right place at the right time on a late restart and took full advantage of the opportunity to lead Daniel Pope II and Michael Conti across the finish line. The bulk of the online race was led not by Lindsey, but by teammates Pope and Richie Davidowitz. After two quick cautions to open the action, the race went green for nearly the rest of the 133 [...]

November 15th, 2011
Nelson Piquet Jr will make his NASCAR Nationwide Series maiden oval outing next weekend in the season-finale at Homestead.
Stewart: Johnson’s streak a one-off
November 14th, 2011
Tony Stewart thinks Jimmie Johnson’s streak of five consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series titles – which came to an end when Johnson was knocked out of the 2011 championship hunt at Phoenix on Sunday – is a feat that will never be achieved again. Stewart and title rival Carl Edwards will head into next weekend’s season finale at Homestead to decide who becomes Johnson’s successor, after the Hendrick Motorsports driver’s 14th-place finish yesterday put him mathematically out of contention for another title
Engelhart in at Irwindale
by Tim Terry on November 14th, 2011
They say one race could change the complexion of a season long championship. The top split race of Week One in 2011 Season Four on the iRacing.com Tour Modified Series (iTMS) may very well be looked back upon in 12 weeks as that online race. The series visited Toyota Speedway at Irwindale for Round One of the 12 round tour and it was two former series champions showing the way in California. Herb Engelhart was the winner when the drivers took to the track for Thursday’s 3641 Strength of Field (sof) race. Engelhart led 51 of the 100 laps in the event to take the win over teammate and reigning Tour Modified champion Brandon Salvatore. The one lead change happened between the two when Salvatore lost the lead he enjoyed [...]
Kahne wins for Red Bull at Phoenix
November 14th, 2011
Kasey Kahne claimed his first victory for Red Bull Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series ahead of Chase contenders Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart at Phoenix on Sunday.
Hornish hopes win revives career
November 13th, 2011
Sam Hornish Jr hopes his NASCAR career gets a new lease following his first win in the Nationwide Series on Saturday at Phoenix. Nearly five years after making his NASCAR debut at the same venue, the three-time IndyCar champion claimed his maiden victory in the Nationwide Series, edging reigning series’ champion Brad Keselowski to a Penske one-two, in the first race ever held in the reconfigured Phoenix International Raceway. Hornish has only ran a partial Nationwide schedule this season after losing his drive in the Sprint Cup series at the end of last year, as his outfit downsized from three to two full-time cars for former champion Kurt Busch and Keselowski, both Chase contenders this season.
New Phoenix ‘tough’ for overtaking
November 13th, 2011
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers say they will face uncertain track conditions in today’s Chase race at Phoenix as the evolving new surface and weather conditions have turned it into a ‘moving target’.
Kenseth takes pole at Phoenix
November 12th, 2011
Matt Kenseth claimed pole position for the penultimate round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series at Phoenix.
Edwards: Title fight will go to wire
November 12th, 2011
Carl Edwards expects the battle for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title to go down to the final lap at Homestead next week. The Roush Fenway driver currently leads the Chase by a slim three points over Tony Stewart, who has won four out of eight play-off races, including back-to-back wins in the last two events.
Berry Brings the Heat to Texas
by Tim Terry on November 11th, 2011
NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship driver Josh Berry spent one of the first “off weeks” of that season by lightning up the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series during the first round of the 2011 Season Four campaign. Berry took the big online racing win of the week at Texas Motor Speedway and will go into Week Two as the point leader in the series. In fact, seven of the top eight spots on the week were occupied by “black stripes,” topped by Berry and his 250 point performance on Thursday in a 4007 Strength of Field (sof) race. Berry took the win by leading 33 of 90 laps after working his way up from the sixth position. Daniel Pope II was second, followed by Brad Wright, Heath Hindman and Thomas [...]
Busch’s Gibbs drive not in jeopardy
November 11th, 2011
Kyle Busch admits he feared he would lose his drive with Joe Gibbs Racing following his actions during last week’s NASCAR Truck Series race at Texas, but team boss Joe Gibbs says he will continue to race for his outfit next year. On Friday morning Gibbs confirmed that the 26-year-old will remain a JGR driver for the reminder of the season and into 2012, amid speculation that #18 car’s main sponsor Mars, through its brand M&M’s, did not want to carry on its backing of the team if Busch remained behind the wheel.
A Tale of Two Stories at Texas
by Michael Conti on November 11th, 2011
Before I begin talking about this great series, I’d like to thank everyone at inRacingNews for giving me this opportunity to put a spotlight on the NASCAR iRacing Class B Series and the drivers that take part in it. I feel that finally, these sim racers will receive the notoriety and the credit that they deserve. — MC This past week, the NiCBS hit the track at Texas Motor Speedway to kick-off Season 4 of 2011. The bumpy, fast, 1.5 mile speedway seems to always pose a challenge to the drivers in this series, and for that matter any other online racing series that tackles this venue. Because of a delay in the new build, drivers knew the week would be pretty crazy as updates would be coming right smack [...]
M and M’s suspends Busch backing
November 11th, 2011
Kyle Busch has lost the backing of one of his main sponsors for the remainder of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season following his suspension from racing at Texas last weekend.
Back to Business, Class A Style
by Jameson Spies on November 10th, 2011
After a fun-filled Week 13 on iRacing.com, it was back to business for competitors in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class A Series. There was no getting up to speed at a slow track, as sim racers were thrown to the wolves and attempted to conquer the lightening quick Texas Motor Speedway for Week One of the new season. Experience is key as speeds top the 200mph mark into the 24 degree banked Turn One, and while veteran sim racers topped the charts, a few new names made themselves known. Speaking of veterans, Kenny Humpe led all the qualifiers with a blistering lap of 27.107s edging another name familiar to iRN readers — Kevin King — by .032s, with Daniel Pope II (27.194s) the only other driver to break the 27.2s barrier.
