Juncadella stays on in F3 Euro Series

Macau GP winner Daniel Juncadella will compete in the F3 Euro Series for a third straight season in 2012. The Spaniard took the biggest victory of his racing career at the Macau Grand Prix late last year after having finished in third place in the standings in the Euro Series.
Fantin, Jaafar to race for Carlin

Pietro Fantin and Jazeman Jaafar have completed Carlin’s line-up for this year’s British Formula 3 Championship. The pair join Carlos Sainz Jr, Harry Tincknell and Jack Harvey in the team’s five-car line-up and are both aiming to give the Volkswagen-powered squad its eighth drivers’ title. Harry Tincknell will switch from Fortec Motorsport to Carlin for a second season racing in British Formula 3 this year. Tincknell, 20, suffered a potentially career-ending injury to his right hand in a testing crash with Carlin at Spa last November.

Fortec sign Serralles for British F3

Felix Serralles will graduate to British Formula 3 this season with Fortec Motorsport. The 19-year-old Puerto Rican finished 12th in the Formula Renault Eurocup with Fortec last season and now becomes the Daventry team’s third British F3 signing for 2012, alongside Brazilian sophomore Pipo Derani and Formula Renault UK champion Alex Lynn. “I am very pleased to be racing again with Fortec,” Serralles said
Tincknell recovering from injury

Harry Tincknell is fighting to regain fitness for next year’s British Formula 3 championship after breaking his hand in a testing crash. The Brit was driving for Carlin at Spa at the beginning of November when he lost control at the left-hander before Pouhon, slammed head-on into the barrier and hit his hand on the steering wheel. The accident broke the third finger of Tincknell’s right-hand at the base knuckle and he has since had an operation to pin the finger back in position.
Rosenqvist stays with Mucke

Felix Rosenqvist will remain with Mucke Motorsport for a second crack at the F3 Euro Series title this year, and will be partnered by category rookie Pascal Wehrlein. Rosenqvist, 20, finished fifth in his rookie Euro Series campaign in 2011, becoming the first Swede to win a race in the championship. He also won the Masters of Formula 3 at Zandvoort
British F3 drivers for Brazil race

British Formula 3 Championship racers Lucas Foresti and Yann Cunha have signed up to contest next year’s F3 Brazil Open at Interlagos. Foresti, 19, who won twice on his way to seventh spot in the British F3 standings this year, is the defending champion of the event, having won all three heats plus the final in 2011. Former Sud-Am champion Cunha, meanwhile, raced for T-Sport in Britain and was also a race-winner in the European F3 Open with Hache Team this year.

Richard ‘Spike’ Goddard will graduate to the National Class of British Formula 3 next season with T-Sport. The Australian is stepping up to F3 after finishing 10th in this year’s British Formula Ford championship with Jamun Racing. Magnussen relieved to survive crash

Kevin Magnussen, the son of former McLaren and Stewart Formula 1 racer Jan, survived a 165mph trip into the catchfencing near the end of Sunday’s Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix. British F3 race winner Magnussen was battling with William Buller when he claimed the Fortec driver moved over on him as he attempted to pass on the straight after Mandarin corner on lap 13. Magnussen’s car was catapulted into the air, and struck the catchfencing “20 feet in the air” according to his team boss Trevor Carlin, who was shown CCTV footage of the accident.

Nasr rues lack of dry running

Felipe Nasr believed that a lack of dry running in Thursday practice had hindered his chance of finding a set-up that could take on the dominant Prema and Signature teams in the Macau Grand Prix. The Carlin driver finished second behind Daniel Juncadella, and reckoned his chances of overhauling his rival was limited because he did not have enough speed in the city section of the track.

Daniel Juncadella confessed that he never expected to win the Macau Grand Prix – and revealed he was shaking in his car when he grabbed the lead. The Prema driver made the most of a safety car restart on lap 10 to overhaul early race leader Marco Wittmann on the run to Lisboa – and from there he was able to eke out an advantage at the head of the field. His victory over Felipe Nasr was then assured when a safety car came out on the penultimate lap – following a huge accident suffered by Kevin Magnussen at Mandarin – and the event could not be restarted in time

Merhi: Third ideal place to start

Roberto Merhi believes he is starting from the best place on the grid for the Macau Grand Prix after finishing third in Saturday’s qualification event. The Spaniard moved up from eighth to third in the race – after being locked in a close fight with eventual second-placed finisher Felipe Nasr. But although he was not able to overhaul his rival, Merhi is full of confidence about his chances of both winning the race – and being able to lead by the first corner.
