    iRacing.com Series Writer
Chris Hall has been writing since the nineties and moved into motorsports reporting in 2005, covering series such as ALMS, British GT, FIA GT, Le Mans and 2CV racing for Full Throttle magazine, Motorsport.com, The-Paddock.net, GTGateway.com, L' Endurance and, of course, inRacingNews. During 2008 and 2009, he worked with the RSS Performance Porsche Carrera Cup Team (and former British GT(C) champions) as a data engineer for a variety of drivers and models of 997s.

    Contributing Writer
19 years old, Jameson Spies lives in Quartz Hill, California. He grew-up surrounded by racing. His mother raced late models throughout Southern California while his father built and setup the car. Not surprisingly, Jameson began racing go-karts at the age of 13, and is now racing Spec Trucks at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. He has a passion about all forms of racing and hopes to make a career out of it.
  • Jason Lofing
    iRacing.com Series Writer
Jason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.
  • Ray Bryden
    Technical contributor
Ray grew up in Nova Scotia, which means he’s a hockey nut, but in Nova Scotia’s two non-winter months he had to find other diversions, which meant watching F1 racing on weekends with his dad and brothers. Without the resources to get started in racing, he gravitated to computer versions of racing – first Atari games like Pole Position, followed by PC racing games like Indianapolis 500: The Simulation. Dozens of others came and went, until Grand Prix Legends came along and he decided sim-racing was his official hobby. Years were spent enjoying this both offline and online until a few years of fatherhood took priority. When free-time reappeared he heard about iRacing and signed up in 2008 and became so involved in the service that he wrote one of the first books on the subject of sim-racing, iRacing Paddock. When not writing for inRacingNews.com, his main occupation is as a research associate with Saint-Gobain working on advanced ceramic materials.

    Contributing Writer
Patrick Atherton, originally from Adelaide in the state of South Australia, currently resides just outside of Melbourne, Victoria with wife of 17 years and 3 kids. A business manager by profession, but also dabbles with blogging, cartooning and fine art, having been published both as a writer in a short-lived South Australian motorsport yearbook and later as a cartoonist in a niche trade magazine. At the age of 19 he competed in club circuit events in an Austin Healey Sprite, later indulging in sprint karts between 1994 and 2000. Following the move to the State of Victoria he raced Road Race Karts (“Superkarts” as they are known in Australia) in the popular Rotax class, competing at Phillip Island, Oran Park, Mallala, Wakefield Park, Eastern Creek, Calder Park, Sandown and Winton. It was during this time he met former Australian F2 champion and inventor of Australia’s first, and most prolific race simulator rig, Jon Crooke. This culminated in an introduction to Papyrus’ legendary NR2003 simulation, and the subsequent sim racing addiction which brought him to iRacing.
  • Tim Terry
    Contributing Writer
Tim Terry, aka the voice of Maritime stock car racing, fell in love with sim racing in 2004 after he joined the Sim Racing Network crew as a pit reporter. From October 2004 to SRNtv’s closure in June 2007, he’s covered prestigious races and leagues such as the Online 500, FLM Fall 400, Real Racing Online and the DMP Racing League – each as the lead broadcaster for the company. At the same time the wheels started to turn in another direction as he began announcing stock car racing locally. Terry became the assistant announcer at Scotia Speedworld in May 2007 and took over full duties in May 2009 when long-time voice Mike Kaplan retired from the track. Terry also became the series voice of the Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour in ’09 and continues to hold down both posts in 2011. He has also announced races for the Pro All Stars Series, Atlantic Open Wheel and Maritime League of Legends tours and has called races at six different Atlantic Canadian tracks. Arabadzhiev and Kral penalised

Coloni’s Vladimir Arabadzhiev and Super Nova’s Josef Kral have both been issued with 10-place grid penalties for causing collisions during the opening lap of today’s GP2 feature race in Valencia. Arabadzhiev will now start tomorrow’s sprint race from 23rd on the grid while Kral will start from last, although the Czech driver failed to complete a lap in the race and would have started towards the back anyway. The Coloni team was also fined 1,500 euros for an unsafe release from a pitstop after Alberto Valerio left the pits with the rear jack still attached to his car.

Maldonado wins chaotic feature race

Pastor Maldonado has given his GP2 title hopes a further boost with victory in a bizarre GP2 feature race at Valencia. The Rapax driver got past ART’s Jules Bianchi at the start to go into the first corner in second place behind polesitter Sergio Perez, but a series of accidents behind him eliminated nearly half the field in the first four corners.

Sergio Perez has secured pole position for tomorrow’s GP2 Series feature race at Valencia, although the Mexican had to pull something out at the last minute to do it. Rapax’s Pastor Maldonado had been on top for most of the session and was looking comfortable, but Perez managed to produce a 1m45.337s effort seconds before the chequered flag to bump the Venezuelan from the top spot by just 0.1s

Perez quickest in first Valencia GP2 practice

Sergio Perez laid down a marker ahead of this afternoon’s GP2 Series qualifying session at Valencia by going quickest in free practice this morning. The Barwa Addax driver managed a best time of 1m46.670s, enough to put him 0.245s clear of second-placed Pastor Maldonado, although the gap would likely have been smaller if Davide Valsecchi hadn’t encountered yellow flags in the final sector during his last flying lap.

Teams forced to race in both series

GP2 teams will be forced to compete in both the main and Asia series as part of the selection criteria for the 2011-13 seasons, AUTOSPORT reveals. The current three-year cycle of entries ends this year, and applications are already being considered for the next three-year bracket. While most teams already contest both series, Malaysian squad Meritus has been unique in only competing in Asia, and Racing Engineering, which carried Giorgio Pantano to the 2008 GP2 title, has never competed in the Asia series

Ferrari young drivers get F2008 run

Ferrari’s Fiorano test circuit played host to a three-day test session for young drivers of the Ferrari Driver Academy talent development programme this week. Jules Bianchi, Mirko Bortolotti and Daniel Zampieri were given the chance to get behind the wheel of a Ferrari F2008 on Monday, before working on fitness and English language sessions, and with Ferrari’s engineers. GP2 driver Bianchi hoped the Fiorano sessions would make him better prepared for the next rounds of the Formula 1 feeder series in Valencia next week, as he has still to win a race this season.

Clos claims first GP2 win in Turkey

Dani Clos claimed his maiden GP2 victory with a dominant lights-to-flag win in the sprint race at Istanbul Park. The 21-year-old held off the challenge of Racing Engineering team-mate Christian Vietoris into the first corner to lead, taking the chequered flag 23 laps later 8.8 seconds ahead of Rapax driver Luiz Razia to become the sixth GP2 winner in six races this year. Vietoris had looked on course to make it a comfortable one-two for the Spanish team, only to retire with a mechanical problem, which left Razia to take an easy runner-up spot

Perez excluded from Istanbul GP2 race

Sergio Perez has been excluded from today’s GP2 Series race in Istanbul after a post-race inspection revealed his car to be underweight. The Barwa Addax driver will now start tomorrow’s sprint race from the rear of the grid, with his team-mate Giedo van der Garde inheriting the Mexican’s fourth place. Perez’s exclusion also means that Dani Clos has been promoted into eighth and will start the sprint race from pole alongside Christian Vietoris for an all-Racing Engineering front row

Senna: Lack of mileage in 2009 costly

Bruno Senna thinks he is still in catch-up mode in getting up to speed in Formula 1, thanks to a year-out from single seaters last season. The Brazilian’s main racing was in the Le Mans Series in 2009, having missed out on an F1 drive, and he has confessed that he is still paying the price now for not having kept sharp in single seaters. “I still have a lot to improve, and I still have a lot to gain in terms of finesse,” said Senna about his own performances this year

Arden’s Rodolfo Gonzalez will start from the back of the grid for tomorrow’s GP2 feature race in Turkey after being penalised for blocking in qualifying. Gonzalez was dropped three grid places after stewards decided that he had blocked DPR’s Michael Herck. Given that the Venezuelan qualified 23rd out of the 24-car field though, the only beneficiary will be DAMS’ Ho-Pin Tung, with whom Gonzalez will simply swap sides of the back row

The reigning Asia Series champion crossed the line with a 1m36.021s effort just seconds before the session ended, putting him just 0.148 seconds ahead of Barwa Addax’s Giedo van der Garde, who up to that point had held top spot for most of the morning. DPR’s Michael Herck was a surprise third-quickest, edging out ART rookie Sam Bird, Barwa Addax’s Sergio Perez and Racing Engineering’s Christian Vietoris.

ART aiming for 2011 F1 entry

ART Grand Prix co-owner Nicolas Todt has confirmed that the multiple GP2 and Formula 3 title-winning team has applied to enter Formula 1 next season, but admitted that being ready for 2011 would be a huge undertaking if its bid was accepted. Todt told Italian magazine Autosprint that while suggestions ART was among the 2011 applicants were correct, the team had no expectation that it was likely to be selected. “The news that we have proposed ART is real, but at the moment it’s just a request, there is no certainty we’ll take the start next season,” he said
