Grosjean wins Valencia race one
June 25th, 2011
Romain Grosjean took advantage of misfortune for the two Addax cars to take his second GP2 win of the season on the streets of Valencia. The DAMS driver won from third on the grid without having to pass another car, as both Addax drivers – Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde – were removed from contention for him.
Vietoris confident he is now fit
June 25th, 2011
Christian Vietoris is certain that he is back to 100 per cent fitness after missing the last two GP2 rounds for health reasons. The German crashed heavily in the sprint race of the first weekend of the year in Turkey when he suffered a brake failure, and after racing in the DTM at Zandvoort the following weekend he skipped the GP2 races at Barcelona and Monaco to allow his head to recover. He has since raced twice more for Mercedes in the DTM, and reported no ill effects after returning to GP2 action on the streets of Valencia on Friday
Pic leads all-Addax front row
June 24th, 2011
Charles Pic will lead an all-Addax front row for the Spanish team’s home race after he narrowly beat Giedo van der Garde to pole position for the main race. The Frenchman jumped from third to first with just two minutes of the session remaining to rob van der Garde of the top spot – and take the points lead thanks to the pole bonus.
Bianchi tops Valencia GP2 practice
June 24th, 2011
Jules Bianchi set the pace in GP2 free practice with his final lap of the session on the streets of Valencia. The ART driver came out on top of effectively a one-lap shootout, which was created when the session restarted after a red flag with only three minutes remaining. Championship leader Romain Grosjean went into the final flurry at the top of the timesheets, where he had been since usurping series returnee Christian Vietoris (Racing Engineering) after nine minutes.
Vietoris back for Valencia
June 23rd, 2011
Christian Vietoris will return to the GP2 Series for this weekend’s round at the Valencia street circuit. The 22-year-old German has missed the previous two rounds after a heavy crash during the Istanbul sprint race in May caused him to suffer painful headaches. He has, however, been able to continue his DTM duties with the Persson Mercedes squad, during his spell on the single-seater sidelines due to the lesser physical demands placed on drivers compared to a GP2 car
Parente joins Carlin for Valencia
June 21st, 2011
Portugal’s Alvaro Parente will compete for Carlin in this weekend’s GP2 race at Valencia alongside 2011 team regular Max Chilton.
Pic dominates Monaco race two
May 28th, 2011
Charles Pic took a comfortable victory from pole position in the GP2 sprint race on the streets of Monte Carlo. The French Addax driver fended off a fast starting Josef Kral (Arden) to hold on to the lead into the first corner at the start, and from there he was never challenged. Kral stayed close early on, but after two safety car periods in the first 12 laps Pic started to ease away when the race settled down.
Turvey loses sprint race pole
May 27th, 2011
Oliver Turvey has lost his pole position for Saturday’s second GP2 race of the weekend at Monaco because he did not serve a drive-through penalty that he was given in race one. The Briton, who is filling in for Mikhail Aleshin this weekend as the Russian struggles with budget and the hand injury he sustained in Turkey, was deemed to have jumped the start in Friday’s race
Valsecchi takes Monaco victory
May 27th, 2011
Davide Valsecchi took a lights to flag victory in the first GP2 race of the weekend on the streets of Monaco. The Italian inherited the lead when polesitter Sam Bird stalled at the start
Monaco stewards slam GP2 drivers
May 27th, 2011
The Monaco Grand Prix stewards have criticised the GP2 field following Thursday’s qualifying session that was heavily disrupted. The 30-minute session was marred by incidents caused by drivers backing up towards the end of the lap to create some clear space ahead of them. Several drivers had multiple hot laps ruined as they encountered cars queuing up through the Swimming Pool, La Rascasse and Anthony Noghes corners.
Van der Garde loses pole after penalty
May 26th, 2011
Three drivers have been given grid penalties for tomorrow’s feature race in Monaco, with Giedo van der Garde losing his pole position. After a crazy qualifying session on Thursday, pole setter van der Garde, Frenchman Romain Grosjean and Swede Marcus Ericsson were penalised for having caused collisions
Van der Garde tops crazy session
May 26th, 2011
Giedo van der Garde will start from pole position for the second consecutive GP2 feature race after he came out on top in a controversial qualifying session. The entire 30-minute session was marred by incidents in traffic as drivers continually backed up to try and find clear space for their hot laps
Grosjean dominates practice
May 26th, 2011
Romain Grosjean topped GP2 free practice at Monaco by more than one second over the rest of the field. The DAMS driver was the pacesetter for most of the session, as he was one of the few drivers to get a series of clear laps in. Grosjean was already out front by the halfway stage, and with seven minutes remaining he found another half a second to put himself 0.8 seconds clear of Racing Engineering’s Dani Clos at that time
Bianchi gets grid Monaco grid penalty
May 25th, 2011
Jules Bianchi has been given a penalty for the Monaco GP2 feature race following an incident during the Barcelona event last weekend. The Lotus ART driver caused a collision with Giedo van der Garde at the start of the sprint race on Sunday, with both men retiring right away after a heavy accident
Leimer triumphs in second race
May 22nd, 2011
Fabio Leimer bounced back from having to start last for the first GP2 race of the weekend by winning the second race at Barcelona.
Grosjean excluded from fourth
May 21st, 2011
Romain Grosjean has been excluded from Saturday’s GP2 race after his car failed post-race scrutineering. The DAMS driver lost the championship lead when he could manage no better than fourth in the race, but his title charge has been dented even further now he has lost the five points he scored. To compound the punishment, his exclusion from the results means he will start from the back of the grid for race two on Sunday
Pic heads Addax one-two finish
May 21st, 2011
Charles Pic led Giedo van der Garde home for an Addax one-two in the first GP2 race of the weekend at Barcelona.
Bianchi stripped of Barcelona pole
May 20th, 2011
Jules Bianchi has been stripped of his pole position for the first GP2 race at Barcelona for ignoring yellow flags. The ART driver has received a 10-place grid because he improved his time in the second sector of the lap when yellow flags were waving after Fabio Leimer’s Rapax car broke down coming out of Turn 5
Bianchi takes pole at Barcelona
May 20th, 2011
Jules Bianchi took pole position for the first GP2 race of the weekend at Barcelona, while championship leader Romain Grosjean could only manage fifth. ART’s Bianchi set the pace during the early minutes of the session, which turned out to be when the track was at its quickest.
Grosjean fastest in practice
May 20th, 2011
Romain Grosjean comfortably led the way in the first GP2 practice session of the weekend at Barcelona. The championship leader was the first driver to set a genuine lap time six minutes into the session, and his best effort of 1m30.559s was never headed. In fact, none of the Frenchman’s rivals could even get within half a second of his time.
