Dani Clos won the GP2 Asia finale at Imola on Sunday, while Romain Grosjean sealed the title with fourth place after Jules Bianchi was taken out at the start. Race winner Clos grabbed the lead straight away, as polesitter Fairuz Fauzy (Super Nova) bogged down when the red lights went out.

Grosjean dominates Imola race one
March 19th, 2011
Romain Grosjean took the lead in the GP2 Asia standings with a dominant victory in the first race at Imola. The DAMS driver commanded the race from the beginning, resisting an initial challenge from a fast-starting Giedo van der Garde (Addax) in the early laps, while front row starter Sam Bird messed up his getaway and immediately fell from second to eighth
Grosjean: No tyre worries at Imola
March 18th, 2011
GP2 polesitter Romain Grosjean believes that the drivers will take more risks with their tyres at Imola this weekend than they did in the Asia series opener in Abu Dhabi. The new Pirelli tyres were a major concern in Abu Dhabi last month, with drivers taking a conservative approach to make sure their rubber lasted the distance. But Grosjean believes that the lower temperatures at Imola, plus the fact that there were not any major issues last time out, will mean that everyone is more aggressive in the early stages this weekend
Grosjean grabs last-gasp Imola pole
March 18th, 2011
Romain Grosjean grabbed pole position from Sam Bird in the dying seconds of qualifying for the GP2 Asia finale at a sunny Imola. Practice pacesetter Bird (iSport) had looked like he had the top spot wrapped up after moving to the head of the order with 10 minutes to go and then improving his time to a 1m27.384s. Grosjean seemed unlikely to find enough of a gain on his last run to beat the Briton, but the DAMS driver then produced a 1m27.067s on his final lap to repeat his Abu Dhabi pole.
Bird fastest in Imola practice
March 18th, 2011

Leal to complete season with Rapax
March 11th, 2011
Colombian driver Julian Leal will stay on with Rapax for the full GP2 Series this year. The 20-year-old Formula Renault 3.5 convert had initially been signed for the Asia series only, but has now extended the deal
Imola replaces Bahrain GP2 round
March 1st, 2011
The GP2 Asia Series will run a stand-alone race at Imola later this month to replace the two cancelled rounds at Bahrain. The series had been scrambling to find a replacement event since political upheaval in the Gulf state led to the stand-alone round in February and the support slot for the Bahrain Grand Prix being dropped, leaving the series with the prospect of the Asia Series season being confined to last month’s Abu Dhabi weekend. An additional complication was that the cars and equipment had been stranded in Bahrain when the teams withdrew two weeks ago
GP2 Asia hunts for substitute event
February 25th, 2011
GP2 is working to find at least one meeting to replace the dropped Bahrain rounds of its Asia series, this week’s AUTOSPORT magazine reveals. Teams were already in Bahrain last week when the Gulf state was plunged into turmoil as protests against the ruling monarchy turned violent
GP2 Asia confirms Bahrain cancellation
February 21st, 2011
The withdrawal of the Bahrain Grand Prix from the Formula 1 calendar also means the final rounds of the GP2 Asia Series will not take place in the country. After the opening rounds of GP2 Asia in Abu Dhabi, Bahrain was set to host the final two visits. The second round was cancelled last week and now the grand prix weekend finale has also been called off.
Bahrain GP2 Asia race cancelled
February 17th, 2011
GP2 Asia organisers have cancelled this weekend’s second round of the series in Bahrain in the wake of the deteriorating political situation in the Gulf state.
GP2 sessions postponed to Friday
February 17th, 2011
Practice and qualifying for this weekend’s GP2 Asia event in Bahrain have been postponed to Friday amid continuing political tensions in the region. A statement from GP2 said that medical personnel were required in Manama, where there were fatalities and injuries when security forces dispersed protesters overnight, rather than at the circuit.
Bianchi given post-race penalty
February 12th, 2011
Jules Bianchi has lost his fourth place in the GP2 Asia sprint race in Abu Dhabi after being given a post-race penalty. The ART driver dropped to eighth place after being one of three men that the stewards adjudged to have “not respected yellow flags” during the event. Bianchi, Racing Engineering’s Nathanael Berthon and Addax’s Charles Pic were all given 20-second time penalties, with the latter pair dropping from eighth to 14th and 10th to 21st respectively
Coletti wins Abu Dhabi race two
February 12th, 2011
Stefano Coletti drove a faultless race to claim the GP2 Asia sprint honours in Abu Dhabi. The Trident driver made a great start from pole and did not put a wheel wrong as he romped to victory. Fellow front-row starter Sam Bird got too much wheelspin and was jumped by Giedo van der Garde, but the Dutchman’s race was destined to be compromised.
Penalty costs Chilton race two pole
February 11th, 2011
Carlin will not start from pole position on its first weekend in GP2 after Max Chilton lost his pole for tomorrow’s Asia series sprint race in Abu Dhabi due to a penalty.
Bianchi thrilled to end win drought
February 11th, 2011
Jules Bianchi was delighted to finally end his GP2 win-less streak with a hard-earned victory in the Asia series opener in Abu Dhabi. Bianchi took the lead at the start, and although he was chased hard by Romain Grosjean, he held firm to step onto the top step of the podium for the first time since the penultimate race of the 2009 Formula 3 Euro Series.
Bianchi beats Grosjean to GP2 win
February 11th, 2011
Ferrari Formula 1 junior driver Jules Bianchi claimed a vital maiden GP2 win to start his Asia series campaign in perfect style. Bianchi beat polesitter Romain Grosjean off the line at the start of the Abu Dhabi evening race, and withstood intense pressure from his fellow Frenchman throughout the race. Grosjean’s DAMS team brought him in for his mandatory stop a lap earlier than Bianchi’s ART squad, and what could have been an inspired decision fell flat when Grosjean was slow away, which condemned him to following the incoming Max Chilton down the pitlane.
Aleshin, Fauzy get grid penalties
February 10th, 2011
Mikhail Aleshin and Fairuz Fauzy were both given grid penalties following GP2 Asia qualifying in Abu Dhabi. Carlin driver Aleshin committed his misdemeanour in free practice, when he crossed the finish line twice after the chequered flag. Though given a three-place penalty, the Russian will only fall from 22nd to 24th as 23rd-place qualifier Fauzy was also punished for an incident

February 10th, 2011
Romain Grosjean will start on pole position for the opening GP2 Asia round in Abu Dhabi after a commanding performance in qualifying at Yas Marina. The ex-Formula 1 driver was in front for the majority of the session, putting in an unbeatable early 1m36.212s effort on a shorter version of the circuit than that usually used by F1 and GP2
