Schumacher (Ralf) puzzled by slow pace
June 5th, 2010
Ralf Schumacher says he was surprised by his struggles in DTM qualifying at Lausitz, and is not sure why he was so far off the pace. The six-time grand prix winner will start the third round of the season from 17th on the grid, leaving him on the back row while two of his HWA Mercedes team-mates (Paul di Resta and Bruno Spengler) share the front row of the grid. “The car behaved okay, I’m really surprised that I am that far back,” Schumacher told reporters on Saturday evening.
Di Resta secures Lausitz pole
June 5th, 2010
Paul di Resta has taken pole position for Sunday’s DTM race at Lausitz as Mercedes locked out the front row in Germany. The Scot held his nerve in the crucial Q4 shootout to set the fastest time, despite having to run first of the top four, while Bruno Spengler snatched second from Audi’s Mattias Ekstrom
DTM firms up Shanghai finale
June 5th, 2010
DTM officials have confirmed that a deal has been signed for China to host this year’s season finale in November, an event that had remained provisional until this weekend. The race will mark the category’s return to the city of Shanghai after first racing on a street circuit there in 2004, which was a non-championship event won by Gary Paffett.
Rockenfeller stays on top in Lausitz DTM practice
June 5th, 2010
Mike Rockenfeller continued his good form at Lausitz this weekend by topping the final DTM free practice session on Saturday morning, while David Coulthard also continued to shine by setting the third fastest time. Audi’s Rockenfeller took the top spot with just two minutes remaining, deposing Mercedes’ Paul di Resta, who had been the pace setter for a long time before that. Before the late flurry of activity as several drivers attempted qualifying runs, di Resta had been heading a Mercedes 1-2-3, with Bruno Spengler and Jamie Green close behind
Rockenfeller fastest at Lausitz DTM practice
June 4th, 2010
Mike Rockenfeller set the pace for Audi in the first DTM free practice session at Lausitz on Friday. The German ended the session in the top spot having traded places with Timo Scheider on several occasions in the final half an hour, after Rockenfeller’s 2008-spec Audi had been fastest for most of the session before that. Reigning champion Scheider, who is hoping that he now has enough of an understanding of this year’s new tyre compound to make up for a tough start to the season, eventually had to settle for second, while Maro Engel led a late-session charge from several of the ’08 Mercedes to take third

May 26th, 2010
Two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom was pleased with his first NASCAR outing with the Red Bull Racing Team on Tuesday at Virginia International Raceway. The Swede got his first chance to sample Sprint Cup machinery driving the #83 Red Bull Toyota Camry, sharing the track with some of the series regulars as team regular Scott Speed was on hand, as well as JTG Daugherty’s Marcos Ambrose and Earnhardt Ganassi’s Juan Pablo Montoya.
Jarvis joins Kolles Audi for Le Mans
May 26th, 2010
DTM frontrunner Oliver Jarvis is to make his Le Mans 24 Hours debut in one of the Kolles team’s customer Audis. The factory Audi driver had his first LMP outing with the same squad in the Asian Le Mans Series races at Okayama last autumn, where he took third and fifth places.
Di Resta to sit out Turkey practice
May 25th, 2010
Paul di Resta will sit out driving duties for Force India at this weekend’s Turkish Grand Prix because the team wants to evaluate new car developments with its race drivers. The Scotsman had been scheduled to take part in FP1 at most venues this year, but the introduction of new parts – including front wing and tweaked wing mirrors – has left the team preferring to use regulars Vitantonio Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil in Istanbul. Speaking about the decision, di Resta said: “It was a late call from the team but I completely understand their decision as there are some new upgrades coming through this race that really need the drivers’ and the team’s attention.

May 25th, 2010
Two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom will test for Red Bull Racing Team at the Virginia International Raceway road course today. Fresh from his first DTM win of the season, which he claimed at Valencia last weekend, the Swede is set to provide support to the team ahead of the first road course event of the year, which takes place next month at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.

Tomczyk excluded over tyre error at Valencia DTM
May 23rd, 2010
Martin Tomczyk has been excluded from the results of this weekend’s DTM race at Valencia due to using a tyre that was not part of his race allocation. The Audi driver finished second on Sunday, and those who finished behind him have now been moved up a position, meaning that home driver Miguel Molina takes the final point after moving up to eighth place. Tomczyk’s second place at Valencia DTM in doubt
May 23rd, 2010
Martin Tomczyk’s second place finish in the DTM race at Valencia is in doubt due to a potential issue with one of the sets of tyres used by the German during the race. The results from Sunday’s race, where Tomczyk climbed from ninth on the grid to take second behind his Abt Sportsline team-mate Mattias Ekstrom, remain provisional while officials investigate the matter further. It is understood that Tomczyk used a set of tyres that were not part of his race allocation

Audi had dominated proceedings on Friday, but Mercedes proved it was going to be on the pace this weekend early in Saturday’s session as Spengler topped the times to start with. Yesterday’s pacesetter Oliver Jarvis then kicked off the rush of ‘qualifying’ runs with just over 15 minutes to go, but the Briton was knocked back five minutes later by Spengler’s Mercedes

Gary Paffett led a Mercedes 1-2-3-4 in the DTM season opener at Hockenheim on Sunday, as Audi endured a race to forget. The 2005 champion, who slowed in the closing stages to protect his car, led home Bruno Spengler, Jamie Green and Paul di Resta to complete a dominant result for Mercedes. Paffett ran at the head of the field from lap 11, when early leader Martin Tomczyk spun his Audi spectacular fashion at the first corner due to a left-rear puncture
