Vinales wins rain-shortened race
June 25th, 2011
Maverick Vinales scored the second win of his 125cc career in a rain-truncated race at Assen, which championship leader Nico Terol had to sit out due to hand injuries sustained on Saturday. Aspar rider Terol was unable to take up his eighth place on the grid as he required surgery after crashing in both morning practice and qualifying yesterday, giving his rivals a golden opportunity to carve a chunk from the hitherto dominant Spaniard’s points lead. Although the race was declared officially dry, drizzle began falling from the early stages

Folger takes first 125cc victory
June 12th, 2011
Jonas Folger claimed his maiden 125cc victory after winning a battle with Ajo team-mate Johann Zarco in wet conditions at Silverstone. Championship leader Nico Terol was a subdued eighth, losing his early lead as Folger and Zarco charged towards the front, and then fading as the race progressed.
Vinales takes maiden 125cc pole
June 11th, 2011
Rising star Maverick Vinales claimed his first 125cc pole position after a tight battle with championship leader Nico Terol at Silverstone. Terol had hung back at first, allowing Vinales and Johann Zarco – the only men to beat him on the road this year – to fight it out for pole. Just after half-distance, Terol thrust his Aspar Aprilia to the front with a time nearly a second clear of his rivals, as has been his habit in qualifying so far this year.
Terol wins after Zarco penalised
June 5th, 2011
Nico Terol claimed his fourth win from five races in the 125cc season after Johann Zarco was adjudged to have illegally overtaken the championship leader on the run to the flag. The duo’s long battle had come down to a final sprint out of the last corner, during which Zarco ran wide and made contact with Terol before crossing the line ahead

Honda Racing Corporation, which has developed the new four-stroke NSF250R as the successor to the 125cc World Championship, will unveil the machine at the Barcelona circuit on June 2. “This high-performance, lightweight and compact racing machine inherits important elements from the RS125R and will allow users to ride with the same sense of comfort whilst learning the basics to move up from entry level to the premier class, serving as a springboard in creating future MotoGP championship riders,” a statement from HRC read.

April 3rd, 2011
Nico Terol continued his domination of the 125cc championship with a second straight win in damp conditions at Jerez. The Spaniard spent much of the race battling with his Aspar team-mate Hector Faubel, but with the 2007 series runner-up crashing on the final lap, Terol was able to cruise home with a comfortable margin over wet-weather stars Jonas Folger and Johann Zarco. Terol had taken the lead at the start from second on the grid and pulled away while Faubel was embroiled in a battle for second with Efren Vazquez and impressive Portuguese rookie Miguel Oliveira

Smith wins as Marquez claims title
November 7th, 2010
Marc Marquez clinched the 125cc title with a careful fourth place at Valencia, as Bradley Smith finally took his first win of 2010 in his final race in the category. Needing only an eighth place to put the title beyond rival Nico Terol’s reach, Ajo Derbi rider Marquez sat in third behind Aspar team-mates Smith and Terol for most of the race, after a first-lap shuffle that saw Terol lead for a few metres before running wide and letting Smith escape. Marquez occasionally got alongside Terol to show that he was faster, but preferred not to make a move, and when erstwhile title contender Pol Espargaro (Tuenti Derbi) appeared on their tails on a recovery charge having fallen to 11th at the start, Marquez soon let him through.
