Stoner dominates opening practice
May 18th, 2012
Casey Stoner proved his surprise decision to retire at the end of the 2012 MotoGP season had done little to dim his pace or hunger by going fastest in the opening practice session at Le Mans. Stoner went clear early on and rarely looked troubled thereafter, and for half the session was almost one second clear of the field. When others, chiefly his Honda stable-mate Dani Pedrosa, did close in, the Australian went back out and lowered his benchmark further, ending the session 0.587 seconds clear of Pedrosa.
Stoner capable of V8 switch – Lowndes
May 18th, 2012
Three-time V8 Supercars champion Craig Lowndes reckons Casey Stoner could make a successful transition to the Australian touring car series if he chose to do so. Stoner announced on Thursday that he would retire from MotoGP at the end of the 2012 season, after just seven years at the sport’s top level. The 2007 and ’11 MotoGP title-winner tested Lowndes’ V8 series Triple Eight Holden last winter, impressing Lowndes, and acknowledged during his MotoGP retirement announcement that he was open to racing in V8s in the longer-term future.

Stoner may consider V8s in future
May 17th, 2012
Casey Stoner says racing in the V8 Supercar series is something he will consider in the future after announcing his retirement from MotoGP. The 26-year-old Australian confirmed in a press conference at Le Mans on Thursday that the 2012 season will be his last in MotoGP after two titles with Ducati and Honda. Stoner said he had lost his passion for MotoGP and admitted he will consider a future in V8 Supercars, but not right away.

Rossi aiming for further step at Le Mans
May 16th, 2012
Valentino Rossi says the top six, rather than a repeat of his 2011 podium, will be Ducati’s main target at MotoGP’s forthcoming French Grand Prix. The Italian scored his only rostrum of the season at the Le Mans circuit last year, but he insists this year’s focus is on making incremental progress – and therefore seeking only to better his seventh-place finish at Estoril. “Le Mans is another place where the weather can be challenging, particularly at this time of year, but it’s also the track where I had my best result with the Ducati last year,” Rossi said.

May 15th, 2012
Casey Stoner says Honda still needs to smooth out the chatter issues that threatened to upset his bid for victory in MotoGP’s previous race at Estoril.
Spies aims for Le Mans resurgence
May 15th, 2012
Ben Spies says Le Mans will be another chance to rebuild his confidence and improve his performance after a torrid start to his 2012 MotoGP campaign. The Texan has struggled for pace since the championship began, finishing a distant 11th in both Qatar and Spain – races in which his Yamaha stable-mate Jorge Lorenzo finished first and second respectively.

Ducati has complete faith in Rossi
May 8th, 2012
Ducati technical chief Filippo Preziosi says the team still has complete faith in rider Valentino Rossi and his crew chief Jeremy Burgess, despite the Italian squad losing further ground at the start of the 2012 MotoGP campaign. Rossi and Burgess have yet to come close to replicating the success they achieved at Honda and Yamaha in Ducati colours, with the seven-time MotoGP champion only taking a single podium finish in 2011. This year Rossi has so far appeared even less competitive than at the end of last season, but Preziosi said Ducati remained confident that making its bike suit Rossi’s style was the best route to success
Ducati expecting new engine for US GP
May 8th, 2012
Ducati expects to introduce a complete new engine package for the United States Grand Prix at Laguna Seca in July, as it bids to tackle the driveability issues that its riders believe are at the heart of its tough start to the 2012 MotoGP season. Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden have suggested that the Ducati is currently incapable of making use of all the power its 1000cc engine delivers, and that a reduction in power would actually make the bike easier to handle and therefore more competitive

Colin Edwards underwent successful surgery on his broken left collarbone in Barcelona’s Insitituto Universitario DEXEUS hospital on Monday afternoon following his crash in qualifying for the Portuguese Grand Prix. The American had a plate and screws fitted by regular MotoGP surgeon Dr Javier Mir, who also operated on Edwards when he broke his other collarbone in a crash at Catalunya last June. “Doctor Mir and his team have done a great job,” said Edwards.

Hayden bemoans electronics glitch
May 6th, 2012
Nicky Hayden says a defective electronics system was the cause of his struggles in MotoGP’s third round of the season at Estoril. In contrast to Ducati stablemate Valentino Rossi, who took his year’s best finish of seventh, Hayden was rarely in contention for the top 10 and ended up a distant 11th, more than one minute behind race-winner Casey Stoner. Having beaten Rossi in the previous two races, Hayden explained that an electrical glitch had sometimes left him without effective engine braking or power, resulting in a ruined and uncomfortable race
Rossi: Seventh Ducati’s current pace
May 6th, 2012
Valentino Rossi says his seventh-place finish at Estoril is representative of Ducati’s current potential, although he remains optimistic the team also knows where it can make further gains. Rossi said his performance at the Portuguese circuit, only his second top-eight finish in the past nine months, was down to starting the weekend with a stronger baseline.
Lorenzo: Beating Stoner impossible
May 6th, 2012
Jorge Lorenzo reckons beating Casey Stoner to victory in the Portuguese Grand Prix was an impossible task despite shadowing him for much of the race. Having lost ground to the rapid-starting Stoner on the first couple of laps, Lorenzo (Yamaha) began to haul the Australian in and finished the race tucked right in behind the Honda
Stoner admits pressure almost told
May 6th, 2012
Casey Stoner says he was lucky to hang on to MotoGP victory at Estoril as huge pressure from Jorge Lorenzo exacerbated his own struggles with chattering. Honda rider Stoner blazed away from the field in the opening stages, opening up a lead of 1.4 seconds after just three laps, but was then gradually reeled in by Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo. Stoner attributed that pattern to huge chattering woes suffered during the race, but said changing his riding style helped ease the issue and allowed him to keep Lorenzo behind him for the final laps.
