GP3 will race at Monaco in 2012

The GP3 series will make its first visit to Monaco this year, championship organisers announced on Thursday. The Formula 1 support series has been unable to race on the support bill at the Principality for the past two years, mainly due to issues with finding space for its paddock. GP3 organisers revealed before Christmas that they were working on adding Monaco to the 2012 calendar, and on Thursday its addition was confirmed.

Gow: NGTC regs enabled MG return

British Touring Car supremo Alan Gow believes the new NGTC regulations have made it possible for MG to return to the series. MG has announced it is returning to the category with a works assault run by ex-Vauxhall factory team Triple Eight Race Engineering, with double champion Jason Plato and Andy Neate on the driving strength.
Laine completes Arden’s GP3 line-up

Matias Laine will complete MW Arden’s driver line-up for the upcoming GP3 season, the team has announced. Laine, 21, made his debut in GP3 with the Marussia Manor team last year after having raced in the Formula Renault 2.0 and F3 Euro Series before that.

Caldarelli joins Toyota as junior driver

Toyota has signed single-seater racer Andrea Caldarelli to its sportscar squad as a junior driver for the 2012 season. The Italian, a former member of the Toyota Young Driver Programme (TDP) when the manufacturer competed in Formula 1, will attend rounds of the World Endurance Championship and take part in simulator work to get used to endurance racing.

Rebellion opts for WEC, adds Primat

Rebellion Racing has committed to the new World Endurance Championship for 2012 and announced the signing of ex-Aston Martin driver Harold Primat. The Le Mans Series LMP1 champion team confirmed in November that its Lolas would remain Toyota powered despite the Japanese firm launching its own factory effort, and has now finalised a two-car WEC programme. With the LMS opting to make LMP2 its top class from 2012, Rebellion has chosen to move into the WEC rather than switching to the American Le Mans Series
Lorenzo: CRT right future for MotoGP

Former MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo says he fully backs the sport’s move towards lower-cost and lower-technology regulations, despite 2011 title-winner Casey Stoner saying he would consider quitting the series over it. MotoGP commercial chief Carmelo Ezpeleta has openly admitted that he sees the new Claiming Rule Teams regulation – under which lower-budget bikes with an element of production technology are permitted – as the world championship’s future, prompting criticism from Stoner. But Lorenzo reckons Ezpeleta’s plans are exactly what MotoGP needs.
ES to run Vauxhall Vectras in 2012

Stoner: MotoGP needs quick Ducati

Corvette shuffles ALMS line-up

Corvette has announced a reshuffled driver line-up for its 2012 American Le Mans Series GT campaign. Jan Magnussen and Oliver Gavin – who finished second in last year’s championship sharing the #4 car – are split up for the new season. Tommy Milner moves across from the #3 to join Gavin in the #4, with Magnussen moving in the opposite direction.
