Andersson upbeat despite early exit

Proton driver P-G Andersson has refused to be downbeat about his second-stage retirement from the Monte Carlo Rally, with the Swede hoping for more outings in the Satria Neo S2000. Andersson’s car retired from 11th place yesterday after suffering damage inflicted by a puncture in the second stage. His team-mate Chris Atkinson retired on the opener with an electrical problem aboard the sister Proton.
Delecour: S2000 is not easy

Francois Delecour has admitted driving a Super 2000 car has been tougher than he had imagined as he returns to the Monte Carlo Rally for the first time since 2002. The Frenchman is lying eighth going into the second day of this year’s event, his first in a Peugeot 207 S2000.

Hanninen dominates Monte day one

Juho Hanninen holds a commanding 44.5-second lead over Freddy Loix at the end of the opening day of the Monte Carlo Rally. Last year’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion was quickest on the first of this afternoon’s two runs through the St Bonnet stage, then just 0.8s slower than stage winner and fellow Skoda driver Loix on the repeat. Loix’s stage win pulled him clear of leading Peugeot driver Petter Solberg in their battle for second place.

Ex-Formula 1 driver Alex Caffi was delighted to get through the first two stages of the Monte Carlo Rally in 16th place overall, as he made a promising start to his first Intercontinental Rally Challenge appearance. Petter Solberg has underlined that he is still far from fully settled in the Peugeot 207 despite currently holding fourth in the Monte Carlo Rally, his debut in both the Intercontinental Rally Challenge and S2000 machinery. IRC loses Argentinian round

The Intercontinental Rally Challenge has cancelled its planned second round in Argentina, the Rally de los Alerces, after the event ran into funding difficulties. Series boss Marcello Lotti said the door was open for the Alerces rally, which would have been making its IRC debut this year, to appear on future schedules if it could resolve its issues.
Heavy snow expected for Monte finish

Crews on the Monte Carlo Rally are expecting conditions to get significantly more challenging as the event progresses, despite the opening stages seeing dry roads and sunny weather this morning. Mikkelsen delayed in early incident

Andreas Mikkelsen’s debut with Skoda UK on the Monte Carlo Rally has got off to a disastrous start after he clipped a wall and had to stop to make repairs very early on the event’s opening stage. The Norwegian brushed a wall with the left rear of his Fabia just a few corners onto the 36.87-kilometre Le Moulinon to Antraigues stage, and had to pull off and stop shortly afterwards.
