Neuville triumphs in Sanremo thriller
September 24th, 2011
Thierry Neuville clinched the second Intercontinental Rally Challenge victory of his short career in an incredible last-stage showdown with Andreas Mikkelsen in Sanremo after Freddy Loix crashed out. BFO Skoda driver Loix’s accident while leading three stages from the end turned what had been a three-way fight into a head to head shoot-out between rising stars Neuville (Kronos Peugeot) and Mikkelsen (Skoda UK), the latter still hunting for his maiden win after crashing within sight of victory in Hungary two weeks ago. Mikkelsen had led the first half of the rally, but could not shake off Loix or Neuville

Mikkelsen still ahead in Sanremo
September 23rd, 2011
Andreas Mikkelsen inched away from pursuers Freddy Loix and Thierry Neuville through the second loop of Rally Sanremo stages, though the top three are still covered by just five seconds. Skoda UK’s Mikkelsen was quickest on all three stages after service, but only by fractions of a second on SS4 and SS5, before Neuville (Kronos Peugeot) equalled him on the loop-closing Bignone stage. Neuville had earlier lost second to BFO Skoda driver Loix as the veteran continued his charge up the order.

Hanninen to miss Sanremo
September 19th, 2011
Juho Hanninen’s chances of retaining his Intercontinental Rally Challenge title now look remote after Skoda opted not to enter him for this weekend’s Sanremo Rally. Although Skoda announced at the start of the year that Hanninen would not defend his IRC title and would instead focus on the World Rally Championship’s S2000 class, he has still been entered for five IRC events so far and won the Canarias, Yalta and Azores rallies

Kopecky wins in thrilling finish
September 11th, 2011
Jan Kopecky took his second Intercontinental Rally Challenge win in succession in thrilling style – as he fended off Thierry Neuville in the series’ closest ever finish after Andreas Mikkelsen crashed out of the lead two stages from the end in Hungary. Skoda UK driver Mikkelsen had looked assured of victory on the IRC’s inaugural Mecsek Rally as he pulled clear of Kopecky’s works Skoda this morning. But Mikkelsen drove too cautiously on the first stage of the final loop, and then crashed when caught out by a patch of gravel on the penultimate test

Mikkelsen kicked off by winning the Zobak stage, with Kopecky only third and 6.9s slower
