Audi left to rue cost of incidents
September 11th, 2011
Audi was left to rue the cost of two individual incidents which deprived both the #1 and #2 R18s the chance to fight for victory. Early aggression had seen Allan McNish take the lead in a thrilling sequence with Peugeot’s Sebastien Bourdais, but the Scot’s hopes of victory in the #2 Audi were undone when he collided with the #66 JMW Ferrari at Becketts. The damage required two pit stops, the latter a serious overhaul of the front, which put him and Tom Kristenen five laps down and out of the running.
Bourdais hails ‘intense’ Peugeot win
September 11th, 2011
Sebastien Bourdais said the intensity of the Peugeot/Audi battle made victory in the AUTOSPORT 6 Hours of Silverstone all the sweeter. The tone of the race was set early as Bourdais and Allan McNish in the #2 Audi went head to head even as they encountered traffic, often diving either side of cars and at one point running four abreast with backmarkers down the Hangar straight

The race swung several times in a breathtaking first hour, as the #2 Audi snatched an early lead ahead of the #7 and #8 Peugeots and sister #1 R18 – around four seconds covering the quartet
Priaulx eyes win on illness return
September 11th, 2011
Andy Priaulx says victory in the AUTOSPORT 6 Hours of Silverstone would be the perfect way to mark his comeback from illness, having missed the last few months to have a tumour removed from his thyroid. The three-time WTCC champion said the break had only re-enforced his passion, motivation and appreciation for racing, and says he returned more determined than ever this weekend. That showed in qualifying, where despite having not sat in the BMW M3 since Le Mans in June he put the #56 second in class.

The Frenchman had also never been to Silverstone, and was faced with tricky weather conditions as rain fell infrequently during qualifying. Despite such disadvantages Pagenaud was in scintillating form as he secured pole position for Peugeot, his 1m43.924s effort almost 1s clear of the rest of the field.

The Frenchman, deputising for the injured Anthony Davidson, traded fastest laps with Audi’s Allan McNish in the early stages of practice, but at the half-way mark found more than three seconds as he blazed to a 1m44.945s. Given that times had been centred in the low 1m47s it seemed that benchmark would remain unbeaten and so it proved.
