Quifel ASM withdraws from LMS

The Quifel ASM team has withdrawn from the remainder of this year’s Le Mans Series due to its poor performances earlier in the year. The Portuguese squad, which won the LMP2 title in the 2009 LMS, stepped up to the top LMP1 class this year with a Zytek, but has suffered from numerous reliability problems and did not compete at the most recent round at Imola as it attempted to rectify those issues

Sportscar legend Henri Pescarolo’s team made a triumphant return to racing after a season away with victory in the opening round of the Le Mans Series at Paul Ricard. Pescarolo Team’s eponymous Judd-powered LMP1, driven by Christophe Tinseau, Julien Jousse and Emmanuel Collard, came from the back of the grid (where it had been demoted after post-qualifying scrutineering) to first place in fewer than 20 laps and maintained its position at the top of the leaderboard for the remainder of the six-hour race.

Rebellion Racing was quickest again on the second day of Le Mans Series pre-season testing at Paul Ricard. This time it was the #12 Lola-Toyota of Neel Jani, Nicolas Prost and Jeroen Bleekemolen that set the pace, its 1m47.928s edging out the Quifel-ASM Zytek of Miguel Amaral and Olivier Pla by half a second. Friday’s pacesetting #13 Rebellion entry was third, followed by the Pescarolo.

Estoril to host LMS finale

The Le Mans Series has finalised its 2011 calendar by confirming Estoril as the last round of the championship. A six-hour race in Portugal had been scheduled for the season-closer on 23-25 September next year with the circuit still to be advised, and Estoril has now been picked as the venue.
