Trident takes over Addax entry for ’12

Trident Racing will compete in the GP3 Series in the 2012 season, having taken over the Addax team’s entry. The squad owned by Maurizio Salvador already competes in GP2 and will join the feeder series for the start of its third season in 2012. “The arrival of Trident Racing in GP3 represents a really important part of a much wider program which started in 2011 with a revamp in our technical compartment,” said Salvadori.
Peugeot wins Petit Le Mans

Peugeot claimed a third consecutive victory in the Petit Le Mans enduro at Road Atlanta. The 908 turbodiesel LMP1 driven by Franck Montagny, Stephane Sarrazin and Alex Wurz claimed victory in the 1000-mile event by five laps after both Audi R18 TDIs retired. The German manufacturer’s challenge disappeared early in the eighth hour when Romain Dumas tangled with a Porsche GTC class car as he was mounting a push for the lead.

Peugeot driver Anthony Davidson claimed his second straight pole for the Petit Le Mans enduro at Road Atlanta. The Briton secured the top spot in qualifying on his first flying lap aboard the Peugeot 908 turbodiesel he shares with Sebastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud. His time of 1m07.428s put him just over a tenth clear of Audi driver Timo Bernhard.

McNish tops ultra-close practice

The #2 Audi emerged fastest in an extraordinarily close second official practice session for this weekend’s Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Just 0.116 seconds covered the four cars from the factory Audi and Peugeot teams at the end of the hour. Peugeot got its 2011 Petit Le Mans campaign off to a perfect start by sealing a 1-2 finish in a truncated first practice at Road Atlanta. Audi had set the pace for much of the session, which had to be extended by 30 minutes after lengthy repairs to the wall and fencing were needed following a clash between the No.11 JDX Porsche and the No.24 Oak Pescarolo-Judd – which reported a brake failure – at Turn 5. When the session finally resumed Tom Kristensen kept Audi ahead until Peugeot made their move with 20 minutes remaining

Peugeot had the early edge as testing for the 2011 Petit Le Mans began at Road Atlanta on Sunday. The four factory cars from leading contenders Peugeot and Audi were among the 23 crews that attended the first seven-hour test day, with #7 Peugeot drivers Sebastien Bourdais, Simon Pagenaud and Anthony Davidson setting the pace with a 1m08.291s.

The French pair came out on top in a battle with championship rivals Andrea Belicchi and Jean-Christophe Boullion that lasted nearly the whole distance. Aston wins as Dyson takes title

Stefan Mucke, Adrian Fernandez and Harold Primat gave Aston Martin Racing a boost in what has been a miserable season by winning the American Le Mans Series’ six-hour race at Laguna Seca. Dyson Racing’s Chris Dyson and Guy Smith clinched the LMP1 title with second place, despite some late dramas for their co-driver Jay Cochran looking like they might delay the championship celebration.

Dyson’s Lola-Mazdas filled the front row in qualifying for the American Le Mans Series’ six hour race at Laguna Seca, with championship leaders Guy Smith and Chris Dyson, plus third driver Jay Cochran, taking pole. Smith had brought the car in with a suspected misfire after its out-lap, but the problem appeared to clear itself, allowing the Briton to set a 1m13.927s to earn the top spot. Audi left to rue cost of incidents

Audi was left to rue the cost of two individual incidents which deprived both the #1 and #2 R18s the chance to fight for victory. Early aggression had seen Allan McNish take the lead in a thrilling sequence with Peugeot’s Sebastien Bourdais, but the Scot’s hopes of victory in the #2 Audi were undone when he collided with the #66 JMW Ferrari at Becketts. The damage required two pit stops, the latter a serious overhaul of the front, which put him and Tom Kristenen five laps down and out of the running.
