    19 years old, Jameson Spies lives in Quartz Hill, California. He grew-up surrounded by racing. His mother raced late models throughout Southern California while his father built and setup the car. Not surprisingly, Jameson began racing go-karts at the age of 13, and is now racing Spec Trucks at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. He has a passion about all forms of racing and hopes to make a career out of it.

    Jason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.

    Ray grew up in Nova Scotia, which means he’s a hockey nut, but in Nova Scotia’s two non-winter months he had to find other diversions, which meant watching F1 racing on weekends with his dad and brothers. Without the resources to get started in racing, he gravitated to computer versions of racing – first Atari games like Pole Position, followed by PC racing games like Indianapolis 500: The Simulation. Dozens of others came and went, until Grand Prix Legends came along and he decided sim-racing was his official hobby. Years were spent enjoying this both offline and online until a few years of fatherhood took priority. When free-time reappeared he heard about iRacing and signed up in 2008 and became so involved in the service that he wrote one of the first books on the subject of sim-racing, iRacing Paddock. When not writing for inRacingNews.com, his main occupation is as a research associate with Saint-Gobain working on advanced ceramic materials.

    Patrick Atherton, originally from Adelaide in the state of South Australia, currently resides just outside of Melbourne, Victoria with wife of 17 years and 3 kids. A business manager by profession, but also dabbles with blogging, cartooning and fine art, having been published both as a writer in a short-lived South Australian motorsport yearbook and later as a cartoonist in a niche trade magazine. At the age of 19 he competed in club circuit events in an Austin Healey Sprite, later indulging in sprint karts between 1994 and 2000. Following the move to the State of Victoria he raced Road Race Karts (“Superkarts” as they are known in Australia) in the popular Rotax class, competing at Phillip Island, Oran Park, Mallala, Wakefield Park, Eastern Creek, Calder Park, Sandown and Winton. It was during this time he met former Australian F2 champion and inventor of Australia’s first, and most prolific race simulator rig, Jon Crooke. This culminated in an introduction to Papyrus’ legendary NR2003 simulation, and the subsequent sim racing addiction which brought him to iRacing.

    Tim Terry, aka the voice of Maritime stock car racing, fell in love with sim racing in 2004 after he joined the Sim Racing Network crew as a pit reporter. From October 2004 to SRNtv’s closure in June 2007, he’s covered prestigious races and leagues such as the Online 500, FLM Fall 400, Real Racing Online and the DMP Racing League – each as the lead broadcaster for the company. At the same time the wheels started to turn in another direction as he began announcing stock car racing locally. Terry became the assistant announcer at Scotia Speedworld in May 2007 and took over full duties in May 2009 when long-time voice Mike Kaplan retired from the track. Terry also became the series voice of the Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour in ’09 and continues to hold down both posts in 2011. He has also announced races for the Pro All Stars Series, Atlantic Open Wheel and Maritime League of Legends tours and has called races at six different Atlantic Canadian tracks. Terry can be heard online at WebRacingNetwork.com, RLMtv.com and OLRtv.com covering sim races. He also makes occasional appearances on PSRtv.com. BMW to defend GT titles with RLL

BMW will defend its American Le Mans Series GT titles in 2012 after announcing that Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will continue to field a works team in the championship. RLL ran BMW’s factory assault in the series this year, winning the teams’ and manufacturers’ titles, while Joey Hand and Dirk Muller took the drivers’ championship in one of its M3 GTs. No drivers have been announced for the programme.

ACO reveal automatic Le Mans entries

Audi and Peugeot are among the 17 teams to have been granted automatic entries to the 2012 Le Mans 24 Hours by organising body the Automobile Club de l’Oeust. Entries are determined by results from the 2011 season, with Audi earning one automatic place in LMP1 by virtue of their victory at Le Mans this year and Peugeot as a result of their Petit Le Mans win. The 17 automatic entries also include one LMP1 invitations for Dyson Racing and Muscle Milk Aston Martin Racing team, who finished first and second respectively in the 2011 American Le Mans Series

Abt sets pace on first day of testing

Daniel Abt topped the first day of GP3′s post-season test at Valencia, eventually ending more than six tenths clear of the rest of the field. The Lotus ART driver was the first man to break the 1m40s barrier in cold early conditions, and then moved comfortably clear of his opposition when he bolted on fresh rubber as the day drew to a close. Jenzer Motorsport’s Patric Niederhauser ended the day second fastest but 0.636s in arrears – with Victor Guerin (Lotus ART) and Conor Daly (Carlin) also able to get within seven tenths of Abt’s benchmark.

Brundles to team up for Le Mans bid

Ex-F1 driver and chief BBC commentator Martin Brundle will join forces with son Alex at next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans. Brundle, 52, and son Alex, 21, will pilot the Nissan-powered Greaves Motorsport LMP2 prototype, which won its class and finished eighth overall in this year’s instalment of the legendary race. Brundle senior spearheaded Nissan’s official works entry for Le Mans in 1997 in the R390 GT1.

Formula 3 front-runners Tom Blomqvist and Will Buller will make their GP3 test debuts with Carlin at Valencia this week alongside team regular Conor Daly. Le Mans Series LMP2 champion squad and Le Mans 24 Hours class winner Greaves Motorsport has ordered two 2012 Zytek chassis and will contest both the new World Endurance Championship and next year’s LMS. The team will enter one of the Nissan-engined LMP2 cars in each series.

The Peugeot 908 driven by Anthony Davidson and Sebastien Bourdais came out on top ahead of the sister car shared by Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup finale at Zhuhai after another race in which Audi failed to challenge all the way to the end. The only Audi R18 TDI to make the finish slowly faded and ended up more than a lap down on the winners in the hands of Timo Bernhard and Marcel Fassler. The Peugeot and Audi LMP1 turbodiesels battled hard in the early stages of the the six-hour event in China, but as temperatures rose the French car came into its own and its German rival started to struggle

Davidson puts Peugeot on pole

Peugeot driver Anthony Davidson claimed pole position for this season’s Intercontinental Le Mans Cup finale at Zhuhai in China. The Briton recorded a best time of 1m21.760s during the 20-minute qualifying session, edging out Peugeot team-mate Stephane Sarrazin by 0.075 seconds. The best of the two Audis ended up third on 1m22.038s in the hands of Tom Kristensen.

The new FIA World Endurance Championship will be fought out over eight rounds next year. The world championship, which has grown out of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, is effectively increasing from seven to eight races with the addition of an event in the Middle East.

Peugeot was quickest in both Friday practice sessions ahead of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup finale at Zhuhai in China. Franck Montagny and Stephane Sarrazin led the way each time, followed by team-mates Sebastien Bourdais and Anthony Davidson. The Audis were third and fourth, the Tom Kristensen/Allan McNish car ahead of the Timo Bernhard/Marcel Fassler entry in both sessions, although the lead Audi cut the gap to the front from 1.7 seconds in first practice to half a second later on

Alex Wurz is set to be announced as the lead driver for Toyota’s return to Le Mans in 2012. AUTOSPORT understands that the Austrian will be revealed as one of the line-up for the Japanese manufacturer’s new LMP1 project on Monday morning. Wurz has been part of Peugeot’s LMP1 programme since leaving Formula 1 at the end of the 2007 season, including victory in the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2009 – 13 years after his previous triumph in the race as a rookie in the Joest Porsche.

Gulf Racing will enter the World Endurance Championship next year with a pair of Lola prototypes. The team, which is run by former Spa 24 Hours winner Fabien Giroix, fielded a GTE Aston Martin in this year’s Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, but is stepping up to the LMP2 category next year. “This year, with the quality of the new LMP2 Lola coupe and the driver pairings we will have, we are aiming to win the world championship and to obtain victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 category,” said Giroix.

Greaves Motorsport is set to compete in the World Endurance Championship next year as well as defending its Le Mans Series LMP2 title. The British squad plans to expand to a two-car line-up next year as it bids for crowns in both championships, although team principal Tim Greaves admitted that the scheduling of the series calendars will be crucial.

Loeb launches sportscar team

Seven-time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb is launching his own sportscar team, with entries in the Le Mans Series and France’s Porsche Cup planned for 2012, and says the project will be his post-rallying future. The rallying legend has long hinted that he would consider a career in circuit racing when he retires from the WRC, having already twice raced in the Le Mans 24 Hours and other smaller events.
