Winterbottom prevails amidst chaos

Mark Winterbottom continued his winning streak in the V8 Supercars’ non-championship outing at Melbourne by sealing victory in a chaotic race three. The race was marred by opening lap carnage which involved five cars and brought about a lengthy safety car, which also served to reduce the race to a seven-lap sprint.

Ford Performance Racing’s Mark Winterbottom took victory in the qualifying race that kicked off V8 Supercars’ non-championship event on the Australian Grand Prix support bill in Melbourne. In an unusual rules twist for this race, the three cars running at the tail of the field on each lap from laps three to eight had to retire to leave a 10-car shoot-out over the final three laps of the event, which set the grid for race two later today.

Week 5 of Season 1, 2012, and the iRacing.com V8 Supercars Series presented by Big Pond, featured 19 lap races chock full of bumps and grinds at Sebring International Raceway’s notoriously rough airport track. The action began with the customary V8SC Americas events on Thursday and Friday nights (9:45 PM EST/02:45 GMT), along with European time zone races on Friday and Saturday evenings (18:45 GMT): Curtis Chippeway won both of the V8SC Americas races, ahead of Ray Butcher and Sebastian Negele in the first, with Quinton Rethus and Chris Luckey joining him on the podium in the second. Thomas van Bussel won ahead of Kevin Duwel and Chad Chastain in the first European online race, and then won again in the second, this time ahead of Trevor Johnson and Duwel. [...]

Whincup wins thrilling V8 opener

Reigning V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup started his title defence with a dramatic victory in the 2012 season-opener in Adelaide. The Triple Eight Holden driver used a three-stop strategy where others tried to stretch their fuel mileage on two pit visits. That set up a grandstand finish with the flying Whincup hunting down the leaders, and finally snatching first place from Ford Performance Racing’s Will Davison on the last lap as the Falcon stuttered.

Hamstead Cruises at the Glen

The iRacing.com V8 Supercar Series presented by Big Pond came to America last week, with a thirty-lap event at Watkins Glen. The track was set in its Cup configuration, so the large, heavy Ford Falcon would need to negotiate the Inner Loop chicane. As has become the custom this season, V8SC Americas kicked off the week with the first official race, at 02:45 GMT Friday (9:45 PM EST).  29 sim racers made the grid, strong enough attendance for the race to split. Canadian Curtis Chippeway won, for the second straight week, with Charlotte-based Jeremy Burris and Californian Ray Butcher completing the podium. Same time the next day, and the Americans were at it again; this time, however, Chippeway was joined on the podium by Dutchman Thomas van Bussel (the winner) [...]

"Muggo" battles with van Gisbergen at Silverstone.

Following the iRacing.com V8 Supercar Series Presented by Big Pond’s visit to Silverstone in Week 2, inRacingNews contributor Eric Forster had the opportunity to interview Joshua Muggleton.  Note that while Silverstone had not yielded much in the way of good results (a ninth and a 17th place in two outings), following his chat with Forster, Muggleton scored his second win of the season at Watkins Glen this week and the Sydney-based sim racer now finds himself in the thick of the battle for the series lead. Eric Forster: Can I call you Muggo? Joshua Muggleton: Of course! That’s what everyone else calls me. EF: The season is off to a bit of a rough start for you: two races down and it’s pretty clear that your finishes aren’t level with [...]

Pancho Carter once said "If you can't win, be spectacular." Better yet, McGlaughin might say, "Win spectacularly."

Week Two of the iRacing.com V8 Supercar Series Presented by Big Pond, and the drivers of the V8SC Ford Falcons found themselves tackling the wide-open expanses of Silverstone. With some of the most storied corners in all of motor racing—Stowe, Chapel, Copse, Club, Becketts, Woodcote, Abbey—the Grand Prix track proved the perfect venue to host some big-iron online road racing. The stage for some fierce competition in the main race (10:45 GMT Monday, February 13th) was set by two earlier races: the first (08:45 GMT Sunday; Strength of Field 3334) saw two professional drivers in a back-and-forth duel, as International V8SC driver, Shane van Gisbergen, beat New Zealand Touring Car and Fujitsu V8 Supercar driver, Scott McLaughlin, by less than a second, with Justin Ruggier taking the final spot on [...]
