Storms could shake up Mexico order

There is concern that passing rainstorms could affect the leaderboard of Rally Mexico on Saturday. The Leon-based event has not seen rain in seven years, but all that could change on day two courtesy of a cold front moving through the country.
Loeb takes Mexico lead

Sebastien Loeb leads Citroen team-mate Mikko Hirvonen by 4.5 seconds after the last full-length stage of leg one of Rally Mexico. Loeb moved ahead of the Finn on the first stage after lunchtime service today, but has was not able to pull far away on the two stages that followed.
Stage cancelled after spectator issue

The final gravel stage of the opening day of Rally Mexico will be cancelled this afternoon after the drivers voiced concerns over the security of spectators in the Ortega test.
Tough start for Monster duo

Monster World Rally Team drivers Ken Block and Chris Atkinson have suffered a disappointing morning on the opening loop of Rally Mexico stages. Both drivers suffered punctures on the final stage of the loop, but Block’s frustration came from sitting at the side of the stage waiting for Atkinson to pass the sister Fiesta RS WRC – only to discover the Australian had been slowed after he knocked a tyre off the rim.
Ford still bullish about Mexico pace

Despite seeing both his drivers lose the lead of Rally Mexico, Ford team principal Malcolm Wilson remains upbeat about the progress the Fiesta RS WRC on an event where it has traditionally struggled. Latvala says rock impossible to miss

Jari-Matti Latvala said there was no way he could have avoided the rock that caused the suspension damage which cost him the Rally Mexico lead. Broken front suspension dropped the Ford driver from first to eighth on the final stage of the morning loop in Mexico today. “It was in a really fast section of the last stage,” Latvala told AUTOSPORT.
Ogier ‘bored’ in Mexico

Volkswagen Motorsport driver Sebastien Ogier has endured what he called his most boring morning in a rally car on the opening loop of Rally Mexico stages. Hirvonen leads after Latvala drama

Citroen’s Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb have moved ahead in Rally Mexico after erstwhile leader Jari-Matti Latvala sustained broken suspension on the morning’s final stage. Latvala (Ford) had been edging away from the Citroen duo prior to the stage five incident, which cost him nearly two minutes and saw the Ford fall to eighth place.
Puncture costs Solberg Mexico lead

Petter Solberg’s early lead in Rally Mexico has disappeared already after the Ford driver suffered a puncture on the event’s first full-length stage. Solberg had started the day in front after winning Thursday night’s street stage, but he picked up a puncture just four kilometres in today’s El Cubilete opener, costing him 54 seconds and dropping him to 13th. “We also had a spin as I tried to push through the puncture.
Block sad about cutting WRC outings

Ken Block has admitted he is disappointed at the drastic reduction in his World Rally Championship programme this season. The American is competing in this week’s Rally Mexico, but will only be seen on two further WRC rounds – New Zealand and Finland – for the remainder of 2012

Defending World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb says he does not expect to be hindered by missing out on the fastest time on Thursday’s Rally Mexico qualifying stage. The Frenchman finished third on the test and will run 12th on the road through the opening leg of the Leon-based event.
Solberg takes early Mexico lead

Petter Solberg followed up his fastest time on the Rally Mexico qualifying stage with a win on the short Guanajuato street stage that opened the event on Thursday evening. The Ford driver was 0.4 seconds quicker than second-placed Sebastien Loeb’s Citroen. The whole top 10 was within 1.9s over the one-kilometre stage, with Mads Ostberg putting his Adapta Ford third, just ahead of Mikko Hirvonen in the second works Citroen, Jari-Matti Latvala’s Ford and Ott Tanak’s M-Sport Ford.
Latvala ‘needed more aggression’

Ford’s Jari-Matti Latvala says his disappointing time in qualifying for Rally Mexico this morning was caused partly by himself and partly by running the wrong set-up on his Fiesta RS WRC. Latvala finished the three-mile stage fourth, 2.371 seconds slower than the benchmark time of his team-mate Petter Solberg, and was mystified by his time before gaining greater understanding in the team’s debrief. “There were a couple of things which were wrong this morning,” said Latvala
Disastrous start for Araujo

WRC Team Mini Portugal driver Armindo Araujo described his start to Rally Mexico as a disaster after turbo and throttle problems hindered his progress through the qualifying stage. Araujo will be first on the road through the DC Shoes Street Stage in Guanajuato this evening, but the Portuguese admitted he did not know what this event held in store for him.

FIA seals TV deal for Rally Mexico

The FIA has confirmed agreement has been reached with the European Broadcast Union for the distribution of television coverage of this week’s Rally Mexico. Both parties are discussing extending the agreement beyond the third round of the WRC

WRC teams want Euro/America focus

The World Rally Championship manufacturers are believed to have proposed a 2013 calendar with no scope for any rallies outside of Europe and the Americas to the FIA. FIA president Jean Todt has long campaigned for a geographically wider-ranging WRC – but the manufacturers want 10 rallies in Europe, one in central America and two in South America next season. The 2013 calendar will be debated for the first time at the May meeting of the WRC Commission, with both parties hopeful of the schedule being cemented at the World Motor Sport Council meeting a month later
