De la Rosa may quit GPDA role
January 31st, 2010
Pedro de la Rosa has suggested he may have to reduce his involvement in the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association now he has secured a racing seat.
De la Rosa, who was McLaren’s test driver for seven years, became the chairman of the drivers’ body two years ago and has held his position since.
However, the Spaniard is now returning to racing with BMW Sauber and he reckons he will not have enough time to do his GPDA job properly.
“I don’t know yet. I haven’t taken a decision,” he told reporters at the Valencia circuit. “We need to talk between the GPDA members.
“Obviously for me it’s going to be a lot more difficult to keep being the chairman, because I cannot dedicate as much time as I used to, so that’s something that I need to talk to the directors and members about.
“My personal view is that we need someone more dedicated than a race driver. When I was a test driver it was easy, now it’s a lot more complicated, so I will talk with them first.”
