Newey, Mansell given New Year honours
December 31st, 2011
Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey and 1992 Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell have been recognised in the 2012 New Year’s Honours list.
Newey has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire [OBE], in recognition of services to motorsport.
With the 53-year-old’s technical supervision, Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel swept to their second successive championship titles in 2011 as the team won 12 of the 19 grands prix during a dominant campaign.
Newey, who has worked for March, Williams and McLaren as well as Red Bull in F1, has now designed or been instrumental in the creation of cars that have collectively won 16 world drivers’ and constructor’s titles over the past two decades – including Mansell’s title-winning Williams.
Mansell, 58, who has previously received an OBE for his own achievements in the sport, was named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire [CBE] for services to children and young people.
Mansell is president of the UK Youth charity.
