Recovering Massa drives kart in Brazil
September 30th, 2009
Felipe Massa took another step forward in his bid to return to the Formula 1 cockpit when he drove a kart for the first time since his crash in Brazil on Tuesday.
The Brazilian, who has been out of action since fracturing his skull in a qualifying accident at the Hungarian Grand Prix, has spent the last few weeks building up his fitness again – and now he wants to try himself out behind the wheel.
Joined by his doctor Dino Altmann, Massa drove a couple of laps in a kart at Granja Viana – although the day was interrupted by rain. Massa intends to carry on his evaluation for the next few days before flying to Maranello to use the team’s simulator.
Although Massa had been expected to sit out the rest of 2009, the speed of his progress has left open the chance that he could return for the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
