US F1 Owner Optimstic Despite Setbacks
March 3rd, 2010

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — US F1 ceased operations at its Charlotte-based factory Tuesday, but team boss Ken Anderson told Autosport he remains hopeful the FIA will grant his team an entry onto the Formula One grid in 2011.
Reports began to surface a few weeks ago that US F1 was falling behind on the production of its Formula One car. In the weeks following rumors began to run rampant about the future of the team.
Among those rumors were the apparent loss of backer Chad Hurley, the co-founder of YouTube, and team principal Peter Windsor. Both rumors have been continually denied despite US F1’s cease of operations.
Anderson, however, has asked the FIA to hold the team’s Formula One entry until 2011. He has even offered to include a seven-figure bond as part of the proposal.
“We have applied to the FIA to hold our entry until 2011,” Anderson told Autosport. “It was supposed to be confidential, so I could not really comment on it. It seems to have leaked out though.
“We are waiting for a reply from the FIA and are working with them. In the mean time, there is nothing for the employees to do, so we have told them to stop working on the current car until we have a decision,” Anderson added.
With US F1 all but finished, Serbian Formula One outfit StefanGP is continuing its push for a slot in the Formula One World Championship.
