DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — It was a familiar story Friday afternoon at Daytona Int’l Speedway as the Rum Bum Racing team (Grand Sport) claimed victory in the Grand Am 200 for the Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge for the second consecutive year.
Drivers Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi, who started the race, shared the team’s BMW M3 Coupe, with Plumb leading the final 17 circuits of the 3.56-mile road course to beat the Ford Mustang of Multimatic Motorsports and drivers Scott Maxwell, who was .628 seconds behind Plumb at the checkered flag, and Joe Foster.
Longhi, who started the Rum Bum No. 13, on the pole, led the first nine laps of the race and Plumb got the car back to the front on the 45th of the 62 laps.
Third place went to the Turner Motorsports BMW M3 shared by Bill Auberlen and Paul Dalla Lana. BMW M3s rounded out the top five with the Fall-Line Motorsports entry of Charles Espenlaub and Charles Putman fourth, ahead of their Fall-Line teammates Hugh Plumb and Al Carter.
In the Sports Tuner class, the victory went to the APR Motorsport Volkswagen GTI brought to the finish by Ian Baas and started by Ryan Ellis.
Second in class was the Kinetic Motorsports KIA Forte Koup of Nic Jonsson and Andy Lally. Third was the BimmerWorld Racing BMW 328i handled by Gregory Liefooghe and John Capestro Dubets.
