Blackford’s Brickyard Ballad
by Tim Terry on December 3rd, 2011
Bryan Blackford (Seminole, FL) outlasted an altercation on the final restart of the Mason Baker Designs 150 on Thursday night at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to take his first win of the GSRacing.net Truck Series season. The two time and defending Truck Series titlist and Jeremy Allen (Indinapolis, IN) slammed into each other on the final restart of the event, triggering a multi-truck wreck that ended the event under the race’s eighth caution flag. Josh Berry (Mooresville, NC) dodged the trucks to finish second in the event with Nick Ottinger (Claremont, NC), Patrick Fogel (Hughesville, PA) and Danny Hansen (Amherst, WI) rounding-out the top five.
The 60-lap, 150 mile race took one hour, 35 minutes to complete. Eight lead changes between eight drivers set the pace for the race. A season high 36 trucks started the race with 22 being around at the end to see the checkered flag. Thomas Hazard (Rochester, MN) took the pole for the event with a time of 54.140 seconds around the 2.5-mile Indianapolis oval. Mason Baker (Greenwood, IN) drove his Mason Baker Designs- sponsored truck to the front of the field and received the Hard Charger Award for his efforts. Baker gained 25 positions from his 35th place starting position to finish tenth on the evening. Thomas D Smith earned his way into the JDR Graphics 100 at Iowa by winning the consolation race at Indianapolis.
Hazard, who entered the race as the point leader, mixed it up with NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Champion Ray Alfalla (Cape Coral, FL) in the late laps of the race while running in the top five when the two make contact, sending both trucks into the wall. Hazard will now exit the Mason Baker Designs 150 with a slim one point lead on Jon Adams (Hiram, GA). Brandon Buchberger (Sugar Grove, IL) gained one spot in the points, bumping Brandon Williamson (Powder Springs, GA) back to fourth. Chad Coleman (Jackson County, GA) completes the top five in the standings after Event Seven of 15 on the GSRacing.net Truck Series schedule.
The next race for the GSRacing.net Truck Series takes place on December 8th when the series heads to the Iowa Speedway for the first time in series history. With just three races to go until the chase, every position is critical when it comes to deciding the top ten in the standings as those top ten will ultimately decide the champion in the 2011-12 GSRacing.net Truck Series season. Qualifying for the JDR Graphics 100 kicks off at 9pm Eastern and all the action can be seen on WebRacingNetwork.com.
About Mason Baker Designs:
Mason Baker Designs was started in the fall of 2010 by the man who puts his name behind every design, Mason Baker. Baker has designed paint schemes for many different motorsports simulators since early 2004 and began web design in 2006. Until 2010, there was no way to distinguish Baker’s designs apart from others until the MBD logo was created to be stamped on each design.
