  • Tim Terry
    Contributing Writer
Tim Terry, aka the voice of Maritime stock car racing, fell in love with sim racing in 2004 after he joined the Sim Racing Network crew as a pit reporter. From October 2004 to SRNtv’s closure in June 2007, he’s covered prestigious races and leagues such as the Online 500, FLM Fall 400, Real Racing Online and the DMP Racing League – each as the lead broadcaster for the company. At the same time the wheels started to turn in another direction as he began announcing stock car racing locally. Terry became the assistant announcer at Scotia Speedworld in May 2007 and took over full duties in May 2009 when long-time voice Mike Kaplan retired from the track. Terry also became the series voice of the Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour in ’09 and continues to hold down both posts in 2011. He has also announced races for the Pro All Stars Series, Atlantic Open Wheel and Maritime League of Legends tours and has called races at six different Atlantic Canadian tracks. Terry can be heard online at WebRacingNetwork.com, RLMtv.com and OLRtv.com covering sim races. He also makes occasional appearances on PSRtv.com. I've been a race fan since before I can remember, going to dirt tracks around the Washington, DC area since the early 70's with my parents.  I got away from racing during my school years but in 1989 a friend and I went to a race in Hagerstown, MD and from there my life was all about racing.  I currently live in Winchester, VA and while Dirt Late Models is my favorite form of racing, I also enjoy many other forms such as F1, IndyCar, 410 sprint cars on dirt and (probably more than anything) sim racing.  My favorite driver is Ayrton Senna.
I was introduced to sim racing in 1989 when a friend turned me onto Indy 500 The Sim by Papyrus.  It took me a few years to own my own PC but once I did, all I wanted to do was sim race. I tried to race my friends as much as possible via modem racing back in the 90's before joining TEN in 1998.  From there I devoted a lot of time to online racing enjoying every minute of it.  I was able to meet a lot of my competitors from all over the world at LAN events and races I went to.  Being able to call some real world drivers friends as a result of sim racing is probably the neatest part of this whole deal!

I was born and raised in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne where I still am situated. I am currently at University studying for a Certificate in Motorsport and hoping I will be able to achieve my top goal and become a part of a race team. In the sim-racing world, I won an rFactor V8 Supercar season and also was awarded with Best & Fairest award. I am now situated with the best simulation in the world (iRacing.com!) and love every minute of it. I currently race in the V8 Supercar Online Series and finished 16th overall in 2012 Season 1.

I was born in Adelaide and we moved-out for Angle Vale for a few years until I was about 7 years old, when we moved to the Barossa Valley where I live now. I'm 19 years old and currently traveling back and forth weekly as I’m studying for a Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology.

I’ve always had a love for racing as my close family did some racing and we were always out at the local dirt track. I joined iRacing back in 2010 and slowly but surely got the hang of it as this is my first experience with sim racing and am loving it each time I race. I’ve won two SK Modified titles (almost had three in a row but finished P2 in 2011 S4), an inRacingNews Challenge championship (2012 S1 Mazda) and was also an AustralAsian Intel GT Series Finalist.

Carelli, Warren Win at MIS

by Tim Terry on November 21st, 2011

While NASCAR iRacing.com Pro Series driver Alex Warren celebrated as the overall winner at the Michigan International Speedway during Round Two of the NASCAR iRacing Class C Series (NiCCS), it was Dominic Carelli who made the big statement by winning the highest rated online race of the week.

Carelli took home a win in the top split of the week – a 3765 Strength of Field (sof) race on Sunday. Carelli led just the final four laps of the race en route to the win over Kwame Adjei, Brandon Buchberger, Dylan Duval and Alan Jones. While Carelli (237) and Adjei (223) scored enough points that would have put them on top of the standings at the end of the week, they made additional starts which brought down their point totals to that of 19th and 23rd overall respectively. Buchberger, who led the most laps in this race as he paced the field for half of the 80 lap affair, would also go on to make two additional starts, winning in one and taking a top five point total for the week with 214 markers.

Nearly 1,700 sim racers journeyed to the Irish Hills to tackle the high banks of Michigan International Speedway.

Tyler Hudson wound-up sixth on the week after five starts at Michigan resulted in four wins and a second place finish. The big win was in a 3648 sof race on the 2-mile oval. Hudson led 43 of the 80 laps to beat Kenny Humpe, Duval, Michael Guest and Al Rodriguez. Five cautions slowed the race for 19 laps and ten lead changes set the pace for the event. Hudson scored 229 points for the win and, when his top starts were factored in, he left the Wolverine state with 209 points. Humpe’s 215 point performance in this race left him with fourth overall for the week.

Warren was on top of the mountain amongst 1,695 sim racers who took to the track in the Irish Hills. Warren led just 14 laps en route to the victory in the 3507 sof race over Scotty MacMichael (who led 51 circuits in the event), Craig Jernigan, Michael Smith and Randy Johnson2. Warren started eighth in the race and was involved in the final of ten lead changes in the event. In the end, Warren gained 220 points for the win.

Second overall for the week was Byron Daley. Daley captured a 3453 sof race on Saturday by leading 26 of the 80 laps in defeating Dylan Slepian, Jared Gordon, Stacy Thomas and Salvatore Rossi. Slepian led the most laps (30) in a race that saw just one caution and 15 lead changes. Daley took home 217 points for the win.

Chris Seymour did something nobody else could in a race at Michigan over the week – and that was defeat Hudson. Seymour bested Adjei and Hudson in Monday’s 3420 sof race. Two cautions slowed the race which saw eight lead changes. Seymour led ten laps en route to the win after starting in the tenth spot. Dominic Carelli and Michael D Johnson also scored top five finishes in the race. Seymour pocketed 215 points for the win.

Jones topped the list when it came to starts at Michigan, making 35 calls to the green flag over the seven day period. Maxx Harris wound-up with the most trips to victory lane, making seven treks to the hallowed ground. Ricky Small qualified on top for the week with a 40.452 second lap around the two mile oval. The 2011 Season Three champ Ashley Miller was second in qualifying followed by Brian Viola, Thomas D Smith and Mike Kosh. Smith was on top in the ten lap, beat the clock Time Trial competition, where he defeated Art Lucas, Marty Sponsler, Mark Russell and John Paquin.

After two weeks of racing, Warren leads Hudson by just twelve points, 444 to 432. Buchberger is third with 402 points while Smith is just one point out of third with 401 points. Division Two point leader Greg Evans completes the top five overall with 392 markers. William Dick, Eric Burke, Darren Armitage, Morgan Schooley, Daniel Ribas Bohler, Dan Hass, Brian Guedesse3 and Frank Hudson are scored as divisional leaders in Divisions Three through Ten after two weeks of racing in 2011 Season 4.

Next up for the series is the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The track provides for some great racing and Southern Florida provides a fantastic backdrop for Week Three on the series. Find out who ends up top here, next week at inRacingNews!

Until then, keep the hammer down and we’ll see you at the track!
