Facklam Heads Online Racing Jettas
by Chris Hall on February 26th, 2010
As the iRacing VW Jetta TDI series departs epic Virginia International Raceway, it’s two familiar sim racers battling it out at the top of the standings table. Coming head-to-head in their only race of the week, the showdown between Thomas Facklam and Bruno Le Doare left the pair separated by just a solitary point in the championship table. Although Le Doare took the victory and 161 points by two seconds, Facklam’s podium third was enough to leave him atop the standings with 421 marks. Seasoned regulars to the series, both drivers have been here before, fighting it out at the front of the championship, with Le Doare particularly keen to get his hands on the title. The Pro License driver was a firm favourite to take the championship last season, but a late charge by Wyatt Gooden, pipped the Frenchman in the final rounds. Gooden’s commitment to the iRacing VW Jetta TDI Cup’s real life counterpart means Le Doare has his greatest opportunity so far. However, Facklam makes regular appearances in the top five of the standings, and will be keen to launch his own attack on the championship.

"Epic" VIR and VW Jetta TDI Cup: A great combination.
Appearing in the same race, and splitting the duelling duo at the chequered flag, James Barrington collected 149 points for his second place finish. It turned out to be a great week for the Englishman, taking the second highest points total of the week and, in a subsequent event, his first win of the iRacing VW Jetta TDI Cup. With 352 points, Barrington has closed the gap on International Club driver, Szabo Tamos who sits third in the championship. It was a hard-fought 124 points for Tamos, who had to wait for a mistake by Adam Stivin mid-race, to poach the second position; but once clear, the International Pro License member could not close on Barrington’s eventual two second lead. The podium gives Tamos 386 marks to his name, a slender margin considering recent results.
The fourth week of the iRacing VW Jetta Cup makes it home at the Sebring International Raceway, a track known for giving drivers a rough ride. As the championship hots up, who will step away from the Florida concrete with the championship lead……
