German iRacers Shine in Indy Cars at Sebring
by Dennis Grebe on June 22nd, 2010
Two familiar German sim racers stood at the top of the standings in the seventh week of the IZOD IndyCar Series at iRacing. Klaus Ellenbrand and Jannis Koopmann both won their respective online races and each collected 147 points for their races on Monday 7.30 pm (GMT, Koopmann) and 9.30 pm (GMT, Ellenbrand). Mark Muckey (Pennsylvania) and last week’s top driver Nelson Marques (Iberia) were relegated to second in the races, giving them enough points to be third and fourth best of the week.

The seventh week of Season Two saw the IZOD IndyCar Series at historic Sebring.
With a reduced participation probably due to the Football World Cup in South Africa, there were ten different winners with no single driver managing to score two wins. Rick Small (Indiana) put in six races and was the busiest driver of the week, followed by equally busy championship contenders Henrik Müller (DE-AT-CH) with five starts and David Gill (Mid-South) with four starts.
The current championship standings also provide an interesting picture, with four DE-AT-CH drivers topping the table. Koopmann and Ellenbrand lie in third and fourth, but each have done two races less than the two leading drivers and are virtually certain to take the top spots once they get decent races in to fill their eight weeks.
Gill now lies in fifth, with Eric Playez (France) following just two points behind. Neil Stratton (England) is seventh a further 29 points back, with Gerard van Langevelde (Benelux), Peter Burke (Midwest) and Juan Rodriguez (Florida) completing the Top 10.

Sebring's Hairpin was the scene of much action in the IndyCar races.
Klaus Kivekäs did not compete at Sebring and with only four weeks so far fell back into third, behind Marques who now is in 11th with five weeks to his name.
In the regional standings Plains increase their points count slowly but steadily, staying comfortably ahead of DE-AT-CH with 1351 points against DE-AT-CH’s 1239. Michigan finally scored some points after three weeks without a single club point and maintains third with 1104 points. Celtic is a strong fourth at 1047 points but is chased by Club Benelux which lies only two points behind. Italy stayed in fifth.
From flat Sebring, the drivers move on to Road Atlanta, a track that promises close and exciting racing with thrilling corners and dramatic elevation changes that add to the challenge.
